Gameplay change for next year: ending the extra step debate
-
I would like to see the following change made for next year.
(I mentioned this on Reddit and got positive feedback) BR Aggressiveness should determine how far of an initial lead your base runner takes from the base. Right now, players with high BR aggressiveness can clearly take an extra step and pretty much never get picked off at first. The issue is then we have this never ending lead-off / pick-off “game”, which I hope to solve.
Players with 99 aggressiveness should automatically take an initial lead equal to what is currently considered an extra step. Players with 0 aggressiveness should only be given the current distance from the base. Everyone in between should be pro rated between the current initial lead and one extra step. From this starting point, you are welcome to take an extra step, but with serious risk of a pickoff.

Sounds reasonable

I see why you received positive feedback; seems like a good idea to me.
I'd also love to see an end to a cheap shot move that irritates me no end--with two outs and leading off of 2nd, I (and many, many others) like to take that extra step. It's super janky that people can pause, put their fielder into a "hold runner" position instantly, unpause and immediately pick you off before you can take that step back. Either put the runner back when the defender makes that change, or make their fielder walk to that spot once unpaused so you can do something about it...
Sorry. Didn't mean to hijack your thread. I like your idea and would love to see it.
