Never saw a task like this before, does it mean holding a lead with your relief pitcher?

Yes. Bring in a 3 different relief pitchers in the later innings and pitch an inning without giving up the lead and it's a hold. So you can do all 3 in the same game 6th, 7th and 8th innings.
This, but you need to make sure the reliever enters in a save situation (3 run lead or tying run on deck). Essentially, a hold is the same as a save but without ending the game (and technically, a hold counts once you leave the game even if you strand a runner that later ties the game when you're out)

If you play a 9 inning game you could also bring a pitcher in to pitch the 6th inning even if your blowing the other team out and then have your closer pitch 3 innings.

You don't need 3 different relievers. You only need 2.
You need to bring your first reliever in during a save (preferrably during the 7th or 8th) situation (up by 3 or less) and then replace that reliever with another one (in the 9th) to close the game. Your SP will get the win, your RP will get the Hold (HD) and your CP will get the Save.
The difficult part is keeping the lead down if you're doing it playing the CPU.
Another way to do it is to bring in a reliever in the 8th with two outs (when you have a 3 or less run lead) and then bring a closer in for the 9th. Do not allow a run during that outing. You will get a hold that way too.
This works with 3 inning games too. Just replace the 8th inning with the 2nd.
