I think this years game will be the one with the most duplicate diamond players. I mean with sets being a thing i wouldn’t be surprised if Mickey Mantle got some other 99 down the line. I wonder which player will have the most diamonds at the end of it all.

Verlander already has like 4

Of course it will be- they’ve already released most of the meta cards- trout, Griffey, Mays, Vlad, JV, pedro, Randy, Nolan, chipper, babe, hank etc etc
And it’s only set 2!
To add to your point they just announced a 97 Carlos Santana dropping tmrw when the 95 Santana just came out a couple of weeks ago

I don’t know what the cost is to use a player and their likeness. Don’t know if it’s per player or with the MLBPA and Hall of Fame but with the long history of baseball and miles long list of great players, the amount is pretty sad.
Aside from set collections there is no point in having four versions of a player, you can’t have four Verlanders in your starting rotation. And players aren’t going to choose a 92 overall version of a player if they have a 99. So essentially you just have a bunch of filler that may only get used for a mission and then it’s off to the binder graveyard.

I mentioned this back in set 1, when we already had 3 machado's, that is one of my biggest annoyances about having 6 sets, there are going to be at least 5 Griffey's, 4 Ruth's. I wouldn’t be suprised if theres a player with 7 at the end of the year. All star game should see some duplicates as well.

That's not necessarily true. Lower overall versions could be cheaper or easier to obtain. They could be from a different team or series which could be relevant based on team build or what is eligible for an event. They could be useful in BR.
Not every version of a player needs to be a top tier 99. It's nice to have different snapshots of a players career.
