Gigabyte M28U

I bought this monitor about two weeks ago and it’s a nice display if you’re looking for “next gen” features. It’s not cheap but more on the budget side of 4K 2.1 monitors. I think I may have spent around $550 or so. My only complaint is that it’s not as clear as my LG CX 65” TV. The response time (hopefully that’s what it’s called) is good and there’s no noticeable lag. If you have a next gen console and looking for a monitor this would be a good choice. Do I hit better because of it? I can’t really say that but it performs well. Just a quick review for those of you looking for a monitor.

I picked one up to and it was clearer than my Asus and it runs ps5 at 120hz

I was looking at the M32U myself. Lookinh to pull the trigger soon

I got the M28 as I use it as a computer monitor, too. The 32 would have been too big for me. Love the M28.

I REALLY want to pull the trigger on this monitor. I just don't think it will make a marked difference in my ability for this game and I hate wasting money. I already got 3 monitors for my home setup and I can't convince my wife to take one lol

You have a lg cx? That's an OLED TV man. Way faster than a monitor. 0.1 ms response time. Same input lag. Probably not gonna notice a whole heck of a lot of difference in performance.

Good call on the 32. I wish I had bought the bigger size.

I can honestly tell you I notice no difference at all. I bought the monitor kind of out of boredom hahaha. I figured I’d give it a shot and if I didn’t like it I’d give it to one of my sons. I was under the impression a monitor would be faster but maybe that’s not the case when comparing to the CX.

Yeah, OLEDs are changing the game. Lots of OLEDs coming to monitors this year. Hopefully we get more, cheaper options.

A 2.1 120 hrz compatible monitor will not help your game response unless you play on an Xbox, because for some reason the Xbox users benefit from the 2.1 compatibles as PSN users get shafted. Less ping and latency is the key. But SDS manipulates this games performance and sliders to make this not happen for the casual players.
Your best bet is to forget about buying another product to try to create an edge. A mass majority of players will never experience online play as a smooth and enjoyable gaming experience.

You are correct about online play. It is all up to connections. But it is nice to have the best equipment for everything else.

I've had the M32U for a little over a year now. I love its performance.

When the gigantic box was delivered to my house from Amazon, my wife said "Really? I thought you already had one". When I set it up on my work computer, I said "Look how many rows and columns I can see in Excel!!!. I really needed this".
Swish!
P.S. I would say the performance of this monitor is fantastic, however, it has not improved my terrible reaction times.

The two Gigabyte monitors talked about aren’t truly 2.1 as they don’t have the full bandwidth required and that is why they are budget. Not worth it

Is that true? My M28U is 2.1 and runs at 120hz on the PS5.

Yes it works fine for PS5. He is just talking about the total bandwidth of the port isnt 48gbps like a max 2.1 port is. It is only 24gbps on that Monitor. So it uses DSC. A compression tool. But usually only at 4k 120hz. So colors might not look as good unless you game at less than that. But most will not notice a difference.
-
It displays at 4:2:2 and not the full 4:4:4 when running at 4K 120 because it doesn’t have the full bandwidth
-
I feel like this was made for CONSOLE gaming

And that's why I won't buy it lol cause I know it likely won't make a difference.
That said, I HAVE been considering the edge controller since it has less button lag.

The discussed Gigabyte monitors only has 24 Gbps bandwidth which is half of what a full 2.1 display has.
