Question about roster upgrades

Does anyone know if fielding has any bearing on updates?
I'm looking at a particular player, who is batting really week, but only plays every know and then because he's having issues on defense.

Fielding definitely matters but I wager the bigger impact fielding has is what their current fielding rating.
For example, Bichette is 80 OVR with common fielding. He'd probably go diamond with the way he is killing the ball if he had at least bronze fielding but it's going to be a struggle for him to reach diamond with his fielding rating unless he goes on a Judge-like tear.
On the flip side, Adley Rutchman has diamond fielding and an 83 OVR. It won't take a great bichette hitting stats to reach diamond because that fielding rating is already propping him up.
So yeah, fielding matters in the period before updates but I tend to believe the biggest criteria from a fielding perspective in assessing potential upgrades is the current fielding rating of a player.

Unless they change it up this year, I don’t think they really update fielding attributes unless a player had a position change, or it’s the last roster update of the year

Thanks guys. They guy is a Bronze right now; so he would be a long term investment. I'm just worried that with him sharing playing time; he may not get bumped.
