Why do we have fielders indifference in competitive play?
-
Context: I was losing 6-0 in the 8th inning and I got a base hit with Jazz.
I told him to steal to try and get something going, and my opponents second baseman didn't bother going to the bag. Stole Third, and again the third baseman never cared to go to the bag and just caught the throw where he was.
Now I'm not good enough to come back with 6 runs, so those steals were harmless, but what if I was? What if my opponent got screwed because of the two steals I got gifted there? It would be an awful way to lose. Just thoughts I had

Isn't it the same programming in showdown? If you skip to the end boss right away, then you can constantly steal with nobody covering the bag when down by 6 runs or more.

Yes it is, and while I definitely don't mind it there, it doesn't really make sense in competitive online play

You can turn off default shifting and this won’t happen anymore.
