Is there a minimal speed you would need to play this game (online and offline).
-
The biggest factor is keeping your "ping" or "latency" as it is more commonly called under 100ms with 20-60ms being much more ideal. Speed wise any modern router has plenty of "speed". Keep things like YouTube off in the background when you play. They suck a ton of "bandwidth".

If you have concern about your connection
The single most important thing is refresh rate of ur TV /Monitor.
When I get smoked online it is when I can not get a guy out.
Because he has a monitor and is in contact swing mode and fouls off pitch after pitch. The monitor and refresh rate allows for a late swing to catch up and see the ball way deeper in the zone.
I am staying w my xbox one in 2023 and upgrading to a monitor.

The single most important thing is actually input lag. Having a high refresh rate generally lowers input lag, but it doesn't guarantee low input lag whatsoever. It differs from panel to panel.

My concern about my connection is that if it's not capable enough of handling the game; I'm not going to put myself and my opponent through that mess.
I've played enough games where it feels like my opponent is on dial-up and it's a horrible experience.
I'm moving to an area that, unfortunately, the highest speed available is 100mbps.
If the game is going to be extremely laggy you for me and my opponent; I just won't play online anymore. It will limit me to what cards I acquire, unless I spend money or spend time flipping, but that's fine by me. Half the stuff in my binder never seen in single AB or has thrown one single pitch.

That's just how this game plays, for everyone . You need like 3mbps of bandwidth for online gaming. It's not your internet, it's the netcode of this game.

Remember the good old days of regional game lobbies and it showing peoples ping rate??

While I agree for the most part with what you have said I will say this having a quality modem/router will help tremendously. Not all modems/routers are created equal. Devices that prioritize bandwidth to certain functions are always better than your garden variety equipment that you pick up from Walmart for 50 bucks. A gaming router will make your gaming connection much better and could theoretically improve your ping by as much as 80%. Tech is one of the few things in life where you pay for what you get. Generally speaking the more you pay the better quality you receive. If it’s cheap chances are it will hinder you when it comes to online play and competition.

Never heard more baloney in my life. No surprise coming from you though. There are only a handful of specialized/high end routers that truly prioritize gaming through special algorithms, the rest is nothing but marketing. And to say it will improve you ping by up to 80% is absolutely hilarious. Don't listen to this guy people (again), your ping can be perfectly fine with a cheap $30 router and it can be extremely high with a $1000 router. It all comes down to network congestion and available bandwidth. No such thing as a miracle router.
