'23 Needs Quirk Overhaul - LONG POST

IMO one of the only things that can save '23 from being another disappointment is a major active Quirk overhaul to differentiate cards and balance hitting
The average player has no idea how quirks work other than outlier on pitchers. I’ve been playing the game nonstop for three years and it still doesn't make sense why some players have quirks that are in active versus active etc.
With Jeter on the cover it really highlights the need for quirks that can make cards unique and valuable for real benefits they added to their teams in real life. Even a juiced Derek Jeter card will be a worse version of Honus Wagner, but they could give Jeter multiple active quirks, like the ones you can select in showdown, that boost his PCI with runners on base or tie game situation etc. make the benefits of these quirks crystal clear and maybe boost them a little bit so they are on par with the pitching quirks like outlier
These quirks could be applied to so many different players to make them unique and worth using in certain situations; the applications are endless. For example:

David Ortiz could also get some clutch extra inning quirks,

live series cards with high avg against fastballs get "dead red",

only a certain 2-3 catchers should get the pop time quirk for throwing out base runners, others should not be as successful at throwing out runners. You should be penalized if you use someone with lower arm strength.
A huge application of this should be on defense! As of right now, all defensive players get the same animations. Players with multiple gold gloves at a position should get a quirk that gives them special animations etc. this goes for first base especially. There has been no penalty for using David Ortiz or Frank Thomas or Babe Ruth at first because they will scoop every bar add a cork for that and give it to the top defensive players only
Finally, the biggest use of quirks can be contact hitters, make them useful again! A "contact king" quirk for certain contact lead off hitter‘s (like Ichiro) should have gigantic PCI’s when leading off and using contact swing or something like that. Otherwise we end up using the same 9 to 12 players each year because of their power pull swings or switch hitting ability.
tl;dr - We won’t see a major hitting engine tweak until the game is next generation console only, but in my opinion the Quirks are already in the game and can be used to make team building fun again, so it seems like a reasonable expectation for SDS

They need to make pitchers stamina mean something . Like attributes slowly diminishing as a picture pitches. Speed goes down control goes down.
Foul balls. Like I get a few but man sometimes it’s just bad.
Reward the level of play. Sorry directional hitters but no way should you be rewarded for mashing a button while the guy with no pci gets a pop out because he’s not on the ball perfectly.
Get rid of toxic players. Not the but dancers. Not the R2s they suck I get it. I’m talking the racial and sexiest names. It’s not funny or cool.
And finally, just be transparent. Don’t give us Working As Intended, or Rory dressing up and going on a stream and trolling us. Just say. Hey we know this is an issue we will fix it, maybe not this cycle but going forward. That’s all most legit Show players want.

I'd like to see chemistry added to cards. Kinda like madden does things.
Another way they could make certain big name cards stand out is by not giving every player who has ever touched a baseball a 99 overall card. It's ridiculous that by the time you get the live series complete there are already 30 prospect cards with better attributes.
Stop giving every pitcher outlier! And fix the dern sinkers already!!!

They should institute GOAT QUIRKS
Only end game 99 Randy Johnson, Chapman and Nolan Ryan get 102 outlier on every fast ball.
Only end game 99 Ricky Henderson gets "Big Theft Quirk" that gives him the best possible jump for stealing.
Only end game 99 Mariano gets the "GOAT QUIRK" for shrinking opponent PCI in a closing situation etc.....
Only end game 99 Ozzie Smith gets the "GOAT QUIRK" for vacuuming up ground balls.

It’s only outlier for me. I just watch a video showing Pedro Martinez showcasing his incredible fastball for a guy 5’11”. His fastest pitch was 97, but he still had outlier. It seems every pitcher and their grandmother gets outlier. I’d like to see the game take away outlier for that many pitchers or have it go away after a certain amount of pitches, I’d also like to see more break added to pitches.

This is what I'm talking about! They can go from bronze to silver to gold to diamond....just like the PERKS do in showdown.
The main reason I suggested quirks and or Perks is because they're already in the game which makes it feasible to implement in a more dynamic way. I don't expect them to make massive changes each year but using quirks to get us some variety and rewards for paralleling.
