I've been playing the game all year, and just when I think I'm getting better... I'm not. I'm basically at a .500 level on Ranked Seasons. My big question is how do people control the joystick? I tried one of those Kontrol Freek restraining circles, which helped for a while until it didn't. And it really frustrated me in fielding in the outfield, where I couldn't make plays because the fielder couldn't run at full speed. It also made it impossible to hit pitches at the corners or outside the strike zone.

And when I just use the normal controller, I literally have no control over where the stick goes. I think I'm on target, and find it's gone super low even though I haven't moved it that much. There's zero precision there.

What do other people do? I'm assuming those players I encounter online who seem to never swing at a ball outside the zone and crush any pitch, fast or slow, in it must have some means of having better control than I do.

Any advice or tips will be appreciated. Thanks!

As an average player myself I completely agree with everything you said in your post. I’m guessing no one has responded thus far for 1 of 2 reasons. Either they are in the same boat as us and have no clue how to help or they are elite players themselves and don’t want to share their secrets because it would make more people competitive. Besides freakish reaction time there are definitely tricks to exploit the game that aren’t being shared in you tube videos by the streamers out there.

    Lower your input lag.

    This is my experience.

A monitor helps tremendously, even if it's not that good. Played on a big-screen tv for all of last year and most of this year. Played on a monitor, and All-Star looked like Veteran, and HOF looked like All-Star. It's a massive difference. I am not even on a good monitor, so it could be better. Even my location on my PCI is better. I am hitting with everyone on my RS team in the .330 or higher. Last year if I hit .280 that means they were one of my best hitters. Events on All-Star I hit over .400 now. The game will just look easier.

I'm probably not going to be able to switch to a monitor screen, so that's not really a solution. But I'm curious -- what does it do differently? Because the other problem I have besides moving the PCI around like an idiot is trying to adjust to different speeds. If I sit off-speed, there's no way I can catch up to a 100 mph fastball. And if I'm primed for a fastball, there's no way for me to adjust to a slider or off-speed. It's very frustrating.

Why? And there are plenty of TVs out
there with incredibly low input lag too.

    1. As for pitch recognition, just focus on the ball leaving the Pitcher's hand and make quicker decisions on whether to swing or not.

    2. As for analog stick accuracy, just start your PCI in a comfortable area in the zone and practice on small movements and not slamming the analog stick in any direction.

Maybe try going into RTTS as a Catcher and practice catching the pitches from your Pitcher, that helps with analog stick accuracy.

Also, if applicable, there is a new PS5 controller coming out in a couple of months. It has some features that may help with analog stick accuracy:

    FYI:

"The DualSense Edge wireless controller features a host of hardware and software-based personalization options, including button remapping, --->the ability to fine-tune stick sensitivity<--- and triggers..."

I am like you, I find it best to sit in a location, most players I have faced online will pitch in certain locations, it may take a few innings pay attention how your opponent is pitching especially to certain hitters in your lineup. Sit in that location. When I hitting i use contact swing most of the time. When I really focus on the ball out of the pitchers hand is when I hit better and take more pitches, take a strike your opponent might not throw in the zone at all so set them up. you do that for 3 or 4 batters you opponent will eventually start throwing in the zone. That is what I try to do, I am not good at hitting.
