Backing out of the Pitcher Select Screen in Event games

Does anyone know why when you, or you opponent, backs out of an Event game when you get to either the Pitcher Select or Batter Select screen; when you try to find another matchup it gives you an Error and a Challenge Failed message?

Then once you go through that; you can finally try to find an opponent. As long as neither of you back out again.
