I’ve been using timing for the longest. I tried directional but when I hit left, right, up, etc on my left thumb stick and hold it there to “influence” the ball it changes my camera view and it screws with my view and timing.

-Is there an advantage to using directional over timing?

-Also to my previous statement when I hold the thumb stick in any direction do I have to keep holding it or can I just put where I want to influence it to go and go back to the original strike zone woth out having to keep holding the left stick thus changing the camera view?

you can turn off camera shift in the options.

I've used directional last 3 years , not going back. Use to be Zone guy before that.

You have to hold the stick in the direction you want to influence the ball. If you keep on it, you'll get used to the view shift. I've hit directional for the past 7 years and only this year did I begin to use zone. I still go back to directional for some Moments, but I don't hit as well with it now. The nice thing about directional is that it's easier to use the power swing button.

Also, to hit the ball to different parts of the field, you need to change your timing in Timing. With Directional, you can use the left stick and after a while, you'll get used to changing your timing too (ideal for hitting against the shift).

    Enjoy!

I suck at hitting zone as this is my 1st year playing an MLB game I’m just now starting to get used to PPP. I know eventually I’ll have to switch to zone to really be good but I’m really horrible at it right now so I’m trying to see if directional hitting has an advantage over timing.

I get it. I'm not proposing you use Zone. Just have fun and do what works for you, and challenge yourself once in a while. The nice thing about MLBTS is that there is something for just about everyone. There are a lot of guys on here that will say you "have to do" this or that, but don't listen. Figure out what feels good for you, enjoy playing the game, and try something new every now and then. I didn't play DD until a couple of years ago and that was only because I was coerced into it by some of my buddies. Now I have a lot of fun with it.

    Enjoy.
