Call up to AAA/MLB stories (for research / comparison purposes)
-
As the recent plethora of "why am I not being called up" posts seems to indicate, there's a lot of people... confused... as to what it takes (in game) to get called up.
I've begun to notice that it's definitely not statistics, it's somewhat tied to "comparative" overall - ie, the game primarily compares the overall rating of the player vs. the overalls of the teammates ahead of him in the organization - but there seems to be "minimum times in league". To wit, check out the "Going from AA to the Majors" post for my... previous researches.
As I've been doing, I made yet another ballplayer, this time a "slugging knucksie" SP/RF. Did the "put me on a dark horse" team during the draft/creation, and got the Tigers.
Competition is: RF: Rosa AAA 63 OVR, Grossman MLB 71.
SP: (just overalls) AAA: 1st starter 71, 3rd 67, 5th 63. 80/77/76 at the MLB level.About June 8th, I got my gold archetype, and after applying it and the extra perks, I got into the low 70s for both my overalls. As of 6/12, my OVRs are 71(RF) 74 (SP).
"Historically", even though I'm the "better than all my AAA competition - read, my SP OVR > all SPs for DET AAA and my RF OVR > DET AAA and tied for DET MLB, it won't be till 7/13 that I'll see AAA - even though, due to playing on beginner with unadjusted sliders, my stats are... "video game": SP: 11-0, 99 IP, 0.00 ERA, 0.15 WHIP 167Ks : .Batting 749 AVG/OBP 1.964 SLG 2.713 OPS 146 hits / 195 AB 45 doubles 9 triples 58 HR 55 Putouts 9 assists 0 errors...
And the earliest I'll see The Show might be 8/1.I'll keep posting to this thread with "this player's story" - and look forward to seeing how some other people seem to fare...

Ok, so given my recent entry into the wonderful world of Ranked Seasons... which I honestly don't know whether to describe as a success or a failure... I created my player with the twin goals of A) improving my skills as much as possible against the higher difficulty levels, and B) having my player evolve to be as good as he could possibly be... while still producing numbers that an actual, honest to goodness human being could possibly produce.
I figured the higher difficulties, (generally, as high as I could get them without having a stroke... so All Star for batting and Hall of Fame for pitching). High for me, and believe me, the one thing I DID NOT want out of this was to hit something like 200 home runs in a season.
So far... doesn't seem like that's gonna be a problem.
My player is a Painting Sparkplug, who's just about to finish out his silver archetype, (he has 89 points toward the needed 100 at this posting), and has now been playing at the Triple A level for a total of 14 games. Right now, with 47 At Bats, he's batting .362, with 17 hits, (6 doubles), 3 RBI, and 1 Stolen Base, (0 times caught stealing so far). One the mound, 1-2, with a 5.06 ERA with 9 strike outs...
So, he still has work to do.
I've actually considered dropping the pitching difficulty down to All Star too, as... I'm clearly having my challenges. But I do like the fact that my player is playing like the 18 year old kid that he is supposed to be, rather than SuperBoy in cleats.
He's a Shortstop and a Starting Pitcher, and it's the first week of August, 2022.
No idea when he may make the jump to the majors, (he's rated 67 just now), but honestly, I'm kind of hoping to finish out the year in Triple A before making the big move to the big time.
Oh, and.... erm... I pulled some strings, and helped my guy be drafted by the Cubs. Normally, I'd go with the underdog option, rather than pick out a specific team, but I thought this time... why not?
Just played the next game up, at short. Went 2-4 with a single and a double, and (I think) 2 RBI. I know I got at least 1 on the single, (none on the double, as the bases were empty), and then another on my 5th at bat of the game, when I came up with the bases loaded... and was walked on 4 pitches.

Update: Mid June, got to where my RF OVR (weaker of my two) > third starter in AAA. No movement.
End of 7/7 game, got my diamond archtype. Overalls now 80 for SP, 77 for RF. Competition on DET is... poor. For SP, the highest SP is 71, and for the MLB side there are 2 80s then a 77. And as far as the RFs go, their best is a 71.7/10 start, SP OVR now 81. 7/12 fielding game, RF now 78. After that, my RF OVR makes me a "clear" third starter in The Show, and my SP OVR makes me the team's "ace" (highest OVR). Have been the clear best RF for a little while now... Start of 7/13? Called up to AAA... Exactly as expected and "on schedule". Placed as "ace" of AAA...
8/4, RF OVR now 80 - "ties" me for...and like clockwork, 8/16, got to 81 OVR on my RF, and promoted to the show...

My player was called up April 8th, 2023, joining the Cubs for an away game against the Nationals. In his first outing, he was the DH. Hit a single off the very first pitch he saw as a major leaguer, so there is that. Went 1-4 for the day, (with the last at bat, he actually reached first, but it was on a defensive error, so he wasn't credited with a hit there).
Second game was his first start on the mound. Went 5 innings, nervous as all get out. Racked up 5 strikeouts, (including one on the tremendous home run threat Juan Soto, whom he was.... mildly concerned about facing), No walks, and he ended up picking up the all important win here, so his career is hopefully off to a good start.
Currently rated 76, with that Diamond Archetype something like 20 points away. Shouldn't take long to get that, I hope, and I've promised my dude that when we do get there, I'll add a 5th pitch to his arsenal, so that's something to look forward to. He already has Control Artist and Grounded listed among his quirks, so that's something.
