Freeze-off scenario

Ranked. Top of the second. My opponent just bunted to tie the game and there are still bases loaded. 2-2 game with 2 outs.
Game played fine until he decided to hunt cheese and it is was a pop up but the screen flickered and I missed the catch.
That's when the freeze off started.
Shoddy programming or user inflicted?

Yeah, I don't think it was on purpose. Just felt weird. He ended up quitting anyway.
