Curious on the reasoning for inning played in Play v Friends

You can play countless hours of Rookie vs the Orioles and grind away anything you feel like other than online stats which I understand but why can't you grind innings for affinity players in play vs friends? It's just innings that you are grinding. Makes zero sense to me why you can't play with your friends to do this though I do understand why in the past you couldn't.
Is there any real reason for this?

Because you can just bunt out with your friends and get an unlimited number of innings in a short period of time

I have 2 ps4's and could easily set 2 accounts up to auto play all night while I sleep.
