Can you create a two-way player?

In Franchise are you allowed to creat a player and make them a two-way player? The option is blocked off but I'm wondering if anyone has been able to find a way to make it work.

You can create a player. Quick manage twenty games with him in the field and then the following year update his secondary position

Does anyone know if the players released as a diamond card can be used in franchise mode?
