Reds easy choice
-
I'm 69, and a life long Indians fan. I've lived in Cleveland, Colorado and both coasts. The Wahoos are my lifelong team. But I have the same EXACT feelings about the changes as you. I was a season ticket holder 1994 - 2003. Gosh, that corresponds to the Jacobs ownership! Now I cringe when thinking of what the Dolans have done to my team and what Manfred has done to my sport. The Houston and Boston teams should have been HEAVILY penalized - they were not at all. The Reds are one of the last teams I would ever root for. The difference in the two cities, Cleveland and Cincinnati is night and day, apples and oranges, democrat and republican. Go with the Angels - it's a great choice for all the right reasons.

This thread was bumped to Off-Topic for some reason, and not really getting activity, so I'll just move it back to general discussion as this certainly fits the definition of "general discussion." (Especially if a Merry Christmas post meets the requirements haha)
With the Cleveland Indians selling out to a small but loud woke mob and our city no longer having a baseball team we can be proud of, I'm a little stuck on what to do next. With the Dolan's resetting 100+ years of history, I figure it's only logical to push reset myself. So I could use an opinion.
Here's where I'm at now. The Dolan's have tested a lot of people's loyalty since they took over for the wildly popular Jacobs brothers. We went from selling out 455 consecutive games to a team near the bottom in attendance. We are a farm team to the big markets and anytime we get some talent, we've learned to prepare for their inevitable departure. I stopped following baseball in general for several seasons when we traded Cy Young winners back to back years (C.C Sabathia and Cliff Lee). Baseball was always my favorite sport and I used to watch Baseball Tonight religiously. So hopefully that gives you an idea of how fed up I was. Now, we are rebuilding yet again AND they've unnecessarily stripped us of our beloved Indians, all in the name of hosting the All Star Game. I'd honestly rather they relocate the team completely. I think that's more than enough reason to move on from The Cleveland Baseball Team.
Currently, I'm between 3 options:
1) Cheer for the Reds. Firstly, another Ohio team. I used to go to Reds games with my Uncle who lived in Cincinnati and Ken Griffey Jr was my favorite player (followed by Adam Dunn) Would have considered them my secondary team, but haven't really followed them for quite some time and focused completely on the Indians.
2) Cheer for the Angels. I've lived in Southern California for 10 years now and figure I can finally embrace something from the area. I'm no front runner so I wouldn't choose the Dodgers. The Angels haven't been in the playoffs since 2014 and they do have a few of the most exciting players in all of baseball. So that remains an option.
3) Stop following the MLB in general. I can use the absence of baseball in my life as a way to pick up new hobbies. Rob Manfred is entering Roger Goodell territory, if not worse. Not only do I think he held a gun to Cleveland's head to get rid of Chief Wahoo and the Indians name...but he upheld Pete Rose's ban, then went on to completely botch the Astros scandal. How anyone in that organization is still allowed to be associated with Major League Baseball (not to mention their punishment of one dainty slap on the wrist) is beyond me.
It's really tough to move my loyalties elsewhere since I was invested in the Cleveland Indians my whole life. I'm not sure my heart will be in it, but doesn't seem like there's much choice in the matter. What do we think? 1, 2 or 3?
Cheer for the Braves? They still have the name they’ve had since time and memorial. After having the All-Star game taken away from them (when it shouldn’t have IMO, since they had nothing to do with what it was moved to Colorado for. And it also hurt a lot of small businesses in Atlanta), they stuck it to Manfred and won the World Series. Not to mention that they won it all despite having a lot of key players injured (Acuna’s ACL tear, losing Morton in game 1, etc.). So a pretty cool underdog story there.
Also, biased suggestion. Pull for the Tigers. They are going to be up and coming this season and they show a lot of promise with good young starters and new bats coming in. Also, Miggy will be making history every day.

If Detroit wants to be competitive they should start by placing Miggy on the bench lmao making history everyday

Reds, no question.
I was so mad they didn't change the Indians to the Blues. Cincinnati Reds vs. Cleveland Blues. Perfect. Not the "blues music/feeling" either, just "blues" the color. Perfectly opposite. They blew the chance horribly. Also, the Cle. Browns and the Cle. Blues. I don't get it. They actually started as the Blues for 1 season when baseball first started the AL.
I thought it was going to be Spiders, I really did. No offense to anyone, but "Guardians" just seems like a really bad choice. I think Blues would've been awesome, and Spiders okay.
I hope the Show 22 doesn't get rid of all evidence of the name like they did Chief Wahoo, as I will still have them as the Indians if the uniforms are there.
Sad moment, and it doesn't (to me) really accomplish anything but take away from the History of the Game.

They should have remained the Indians, no question. If the name was so bad, they would not have stayed the Indians a full year after the name change was announced. However, in the hypersensitive world we live in I would have had an easier time with a switch to the Spiders (and even the Blues, which I never considered, sounds like a MUCH better option) Instead, the Dolans named them after some bridge statues called The Guardians of Traffic that I don't think most people in the area knew or cared about. Now it sounds like our mascots are Traffic Officers.
Also, hate how lazy the rebranding was. They slap a "Guar" over the "In" and call it a day. If you're going to [censored] on 100+ years of history, at least go the full mile. Change the colors, the font, etc. Now it just reeks of off brand/politically correct Indians.

Seriously, how cool would that have been; Reds vs. Blues.
They were the Blues, too, before the Naps, and there was another Cleveland Blues in the 1880's. Missed opportunity...
I wanted the Expos to become the Grays when that whole thing happened.
I really don't mind Indians, I think of it more as a tribute to the culture than anything. I taught on a reservation in Montana a few years ago. Their mascot name? "The Indians". Surprised me, but I thought it was cool. The girl's team was "Lady Indians".
It really just isn't that big a deal.
"Tonight's matchup: Interstate rivals, Cleveland Blues visiting the Cincinnati Reds. It should be a good one," the announcer tells a TV audience waiting for the highly anticipated 2024 World Series Game #1.
What up, Hustlin'...you still hustlin', eh?

As a cardinals fan it’s tough to say this but the reds have a good fan base. I’m 13, so not a ton of experience. Angels are big market team on the rise tho. Don’t quit baseball yet!
