Running On Fumes Perk in Showdown Mode
-
I'm staring at a screen with the following diamond perks available:
-
Running On Fumes - Exit velocity boost on normal swings when the opposing pitcher has less than 50% stamina and the bases are empty
-
Oppo-Taco - Significant contact boost on outside pitches
-
Off The Radar - Significant contact boost on pitches slightly outside the strike zone.
-
Base Commander - Significantly increased speed while stealing bases
I'm thinking Running On Fumes could be very useful but I've never taken note of how much stamina the CPU's pitcher usually has. Then there's Base Commander which seems amazing and I could see Off The Radar being really good for someone like me that swings at bad pitches sometimes.

Running on fumes is helpful if you know that you're going against a closer for the final boss. I took it while doing the NL central showdown because I knew Hader had low stamina and I could wait him out a bit. Not sure how great it works if you're going against starters with higher stamina, probably pretty close to worthless.

They all look pretty bad. I tend to like clear for takeoff, heart attack, and whatever the contact boost is for pitches down the middle is called. Zen or meditate something?

In this run, I already have diamond Cleared for Takeoff, diamond Life Line (which is significant contact boost with runners in scoring position), and I've been running silver Rattled because I like when the CPU messes up their throws and cuts me a break.

Life line is too situational for my taste. You’re always losing in the boss matchups, so heart attack is quite nice.

I ended up going with the Base Commander one. I feel like it should give me guaranteed ability to get into scoring position off singles.

Synergy. I like it.
I’ve never taken base commander, but could be useful to stay out of double plays. Too bad most of my guys usually have terrible speed. Sano, Cruz, Enarcarcion, Grandal types.

I feel ya there. I always take left-handed power bats with decent contact so I'm stuck with the likes of Tyler Naquin and his 48 speed. I swear, the swing matters more than the attributes this year more than ever. I went nuts hitting with a 64 overall player named Esteban Quiroz in my most recent Showdown run. I don't think I had a single out with him and he hit at least 3 HRs and countless doubles.

Anyone else, when they pull that Lucky 7 one, where the 7th pitch is always a strike, hit dribblers down the baseline?
EVERY single time that pops up, it's a guaranteed out. I dont know if I'm pushing myself or what; but it's always a weak hit ball.
