I finally gave BR a try and....

It's not hard to get 80 points, however I would advise against taking diamond SP, BR is all about getting the absolute best bats and then finding silvers and bronzes you pitch well with
-
You’ll get to 100 pts quicker than you think. As long as stubs aren’t an issue don’t be afraid to just forfeit a draft and re-draft if you didn’t luck up and get any of the mission players or it’s a draft that you don’t think you can manage at least a couple wins with the squad.

@ericulous1_psn said in I finally gave BR a try and....:
I lost my first game 2-0 with Verlander as my SP. I hit Posada and left a slider over the inner half to Stanton.
I won the second game 2-1 in 4 innings on an Albies 2 run HR.
The cool part is I got 19 total points in 2 games because of having 10k, 4 TBD with Murray and 1 win.
So, how hard is it truly to get to at least 80 points? I only drafted Murray for player missions. I am a total online beginner. I pitch decently and hit poorly.
Any advice on how to get to 80 points? Thanks.
I will say, my small sample was a good experience.
You will be at 80 by Sunday I would imagine, wins are worth two, the stat missions are worth quite a bit as well so you really only need one or two decent runs. BR is probably the easiest its ever been and the easiest online mode for obtaining rewards.
-
Yep -- all about the bats. You'll be fine as long as you hit those player missions. I had a guy even offer me a win if I let him get 6 K's and mash with one of the mission guys. He upheld his end, too. So, maybe message people?

Write down the player missions and who you need to take and their position.
DONT draft that position with anyone, unless forced that's not a Mission player.
Draft at least 4 Silvers for your BP. 2 righties and 2 lefties if you can. SPs, unless forced to take a Diamond, Gold, or Silver can be 3 Bronze and the 2 Commons.
WITHOUT getting any of the Mission players, you should be able to field 7 hitters with your Diamond and Gold picks. (Unless you get a Gold Mission pitcher).
Your bench should be at least two righties, 2 lefties, and a switch hitter.
ONLY take a Diamond pitcher (SP, RP, or CP) if there are no other spots available, or if you want to skip a position that has a Mission Player attached to it.
Remember, your Player Missions are continuous. Meaning that you don't have to finish them in one draft. So if you don't get one completed, like you did with Murray, remember you still need to draft that player if he shows up.
The ONLY Missions that reset each draft are the 10Ks, which you already got, the 40 TBs, and the other hitting one (10 XBHs I think).
ALWAYS put your best hitters in the first 3 spots, regardless if you have a Mission Player.
Be prepared for some @$$hats that will come out and either intentionally walk or hit batters that have Player Missions. Some players may even throw balls in the dirt to see if you'll swing knowing you need hits with them.
Also be prepared for some people to quit if you out in a pitcher than is a Mission Player, after 2 batters, just so you don't get credit for the IP.
But also remember; unless the bumped it up more, each win is worth 2 points. So even if they do quit and you don't get credit for those missions, you still get 2 pts for the win.

Thanks for this. You definitely break it down well. Why not diamond pitchers, just curious.

You want the best bats since most games are 3 innings, I tend to put a couple gold in my bullpen though

Because on AS good hitters will still hit 99 SPs and if you’re playing a weak opponent they will likely struggle just as much with good Silvers (pitches well). Energy goes down fast so you want a strong bullpen to play matchups.

With the exception of that gold Tanana card for the mission, tank the rotation and don't use them. The bullpen regenerates stamina at a faster rate. I usually try to get 5-6 solid silver or gold relievers which allows me to have at least 3 relievers I trust with full stamina in every game. Sometimes I'll take a diamond closer if the hitters are subpar in that round, but I find I pitch just as well with the silver and golds. I'd rather have the diamond in the lineup since they are likely to have better hitting/fielding balance.
Don't be afraid to start your best reliever and have him pitch 2-3 innings if he is still pitching well. He'll be gassed in game two, but ready to go again in game 3.
*I forgot to mention you should try to get a speed guy in a bronze or common round, and if there are no good hitting options in one of those rounds but there is a catcher available, grab him for the bench. You likely won't need 5 pinch hitters, but you may want to pinch run for that catcher in a short game.
-
Bullpen >> SP for sure but if I can get a silver SP I like with good repertoire (eg for me that Stroman, Efflin, May, etc) then I like that as I gives me a chance to use them for first inning and then assess my opponent before deciding what kind of bullpen arm to use. For bullpen, there are several Silver that have outlier so finding those are key (eg Andres Munoz is a beast and then of course Chapman and Clase).

Awesome, these are great tips. I definitely took 99 Verlander thinking (no brainer and only got to use him once hahahahaha).
I appreciate the advice everyone.

To be honest I am that toxic guy using ASG Degrom in BR sometimes. Depends on my draft and also if I need to save my run, but for the most part you can survive with Silver and Bronze SP’s as long as you have gold and silver in your pen.

While I understand the aspect; THIS is one of the reasons that I despise online play.
What you're actually saying here is that do to a flaw in the games programming between a 3 inn 'arcade' version of baseball and an actual 9 inn 'sim' version of baseball; relief pitchers are the Meta in Event and BR games.
That seems more like someone abusing an exploit, that SDS inadvertently put in this mode, to their advantage.
Which is also why I think they should either revert back to not being able to select your pitcher or either have it where you can't select a BP arm until it is a relief situation.

using an opener is perfectly fine, it cost you that bp arm the next game. Its strategy.

I do agree it's strategy. But it's been well stated that one of the reason people use them us because the stamina in SPs doesn't recover fast enough.
But that's because the game still thinks that even though it's a three inning game, it treats it like a 9 inn game. Same as Conquest. Why else would an SP be in the yellow after two innings pitched?
It's an unintentional exploit.
