Hear me out.. so I know I’ve been hyper critical of this game and I feel like most of it is well deserved, but overall I feel like the game has so much potential with how amazing content is that I really don’t want to give up on this franchise yet. I’m hoping future additions and overhauls ton gameplay can truly make this game a “must have” for all sports fans.

That being said, there have been lots of complaints about defense in this game, and rightfully so. Diamond defenders seem to play down to common level at important moments of games. I get the randomness of the game, but this is video game baseball , so shouldn’t we have some control over whether or not the player actually catches the ball once he moves into the marker? The bad jumps from fielders is fine, but all too often you get a ball tracked down perfectly by a 99 rated defender and all we can do is pray he catches it.

So I feel that in order to supplant that idle moment of hope and despair, some form of a “USER CATCH” should be implemented. We already have a “BUTTON ACCURACY” meter for throwing, why not some form of catching meter for outfielders? Infield is tricky with line drives and reaction times, but I feel Like fly balls or line drives to the outfield should give enough time for reaction. Maybe using a trigger or bumper function for a user catch could work as to not disrupt any pre-loaded throw? Either way, I feel like this would be similar to a “ROBBED HOMER” meter, but better functionality… using the players statistics to adjust the difficulty level of a user catch might also allow for a level skill to be involved. A proper user catch addition would improve gameplay in my view, especially in competitive online settings.

Except in online play, lag would affect it. I'm 50/50 on more button pushing at key stages when it's clear the button press goes completely ignored by the online game quite often. I had Mike Schmidt just ignoring my throw to second command but fortunately the opponent's baserunning was worse than the lag.

Also, look at it this way -- if we defend pack odds, then we should expect similar from the diamond fielders at crunch time, shouldn't we?

Imop way to much hand holding in defense in this game. I also wish it had way better camera angles on offense and defense. They have the ability to swing the camera around it's in rtts and moments .

How much more intense would it be if the camera flipped around and it's the 3rd out coming right at you and you have to manually catch it.

Game really needs a hardcore mode for online rated.
