Competition in event

I seem to run into a lot of really good players in the event. Definitely better competition (and interestingly enough, more PS players as opposed to Xbox) than I do while playing BR. Haven’t played much ranked this year. Have played quite a bit of BR because of the programs. But playing events here the past week or so and I just continue to get matched up with good players.
Does everyone have the same experience? Is there a reason? I also seem to get hammered in my first game of every run.

Every game seems to be someone with a WS banner or 12 and 0.

I think it's people that don't like the RS rewards so they are playing events instead. These same people will be playing BR tomorrow though.

A lot of players wait to start their regular season runs when a new season starts up. Also once you get a BR or World Series reward what’s left to do...? Play event. Also event is just quick and allows players to not sit through 45 minute sweatfest
