What determines what pitcher you face?

Maybe this is a dumb question but is it random or is there some deciding factor? Would be nice for grinding team affinity if I knew what pitcher I was facing.

On conquest it matches up with ur starter so pick ur 5th starter it will use there 5th I think extra innings is random

You match up against the same rotation # pitcher you are using. So if you're using your #5 (rating wise) SP you will get their #5.

I think that’s how it used to be but now it seems to just be random for the most part.

It has matched me up against the same # starter against the cpu in every game I have played.
