I think he means that it should be on the player to know what hitters to shift for instead of having the ai do it for you.
And he has a point.

You can...just turn auto shift on. if not, turn it off...it doesn't get simpler than that.

He's not complaining about being able to turn it off. He's complaining that your opponent should manually shift for batters it shouldn't be automatic. It would take some sort of strategy but that's probably too hard for the participation trophy crowd.

It is what it is. You can change it from auto to manual and it won't make a bit a difference if you don't know what you're doing. No one is ever happy about the outcome of "Auto", but at that end of day, it is what it is!
