IRL Babe wouldn't even know what to do against Chris Sale, let's be honest.
Yeah because babe never hit good pitching and sale some how could get the best hitter of all time out consistently...
Babe is the best hitter of all time (actually 2nd to Bonds, but that's beside the point) because he was that much better than his comp.
No pitcher back then had the insane training, mechanics, science and tech that professional athletes do today.
90mph straight fastballs were the norm even up to 1990 lol...
On top of all that, Chris Sale is filthy even in today's insane standards.SO you don't know much about all time baseball huh? and no bonds is not the best hitter of all time,,, babe is..SO you don't think pitchers threw 90 back then and had insane breaking stuff? You really need to do your research on all time greats. Yes they didn't last as long as they do today because of training but most certainly aren't better just because they exist today.. Dude they had all that and didn't have video where they could see how pitchers pitched them and have an analytics guy show them what was thrown to them. Chis sale is filthy by any standard but he isn't an all time great and never will be. It also doesn't mean babe wouldn't destroy him..
Oh I know my history buddy. I know pitchers didn't have breaking stuff that they do today. The average pitcher 50-100 years ago had very little break to today's standards. Sandy Koufax is a great example of a guy who did have insane break on his curve, and he was unhittable for that time. He was an outlier. Guys have that kind of break everywhere in today's game. Because it's taught early and perfected with performance tech ad training..
You said they didn't last as long as today?? You're absolutely backwards!!! They lasted forever back then, as they were expected to pitch all 9 innings (and quite often did). Today they go by pitch counts. That was not the case back then at all.
Today is a specialized game. Relievers used in specific roles, openers, piggy backers.. it's max effort for short bursts. The exact opposite of the old game. You can romanticize history all you want (I usually do) but today's athletes are much better trained. A pitcher today blows away a pitcher from 50-100 years ago. That said, the greats are what they are because they dominated "their" competition. They were ahead of their time. If you gave most of them the training, tech, etc. we have today, do they dominate in today's league? Ya, probably. Some most definitely!!
But I never said otherwise. I said, plop a hitter from 100 years ago up against a guy like Chris Sale (a filthy lefty, obviously not a legend lol) and he'd be have a very tough time. Even the great Bambino.First i was meaning career wise. Today's pitcher's primes are longer compared to back then because they don't have to throw the innings they did back then.
Again you didn't actually argue a point other than saying the game is different. Yes the game is different and a filthy lefty like sale would still get rocked if you plugged him in to yester years game and again he would have to pitch dang near every day which would cause him to lose stuff. and again you put babe into today's time and have him face sale it would be worse for sale because his skill's would still translate to today's game and he would have the benefits of today's player. Skills' in baseball translate throughout time. This isn't football.
You used koufax as an example which was a 60's pitcher but the 20's pitchers had some of the best of all time when it came to control and break.. No they didn't throw 96 but they didn't walk everyone either.Wow. After reading that, I will just have to completely disagree with you and let's leave it at that. Agree to disagree.

Cool,, agree to disagree but you didn't actually argue your point.
I get athletes are better now and better coached. That is an argument to be made but when making that particular argument people never give the same coaching to the players they are arguing against. That is why I talk about skill's translate throughout time. You put any of the all time greats into today's game and they are just going to be better than they were then. If you do in reverse then you have to take all that training and knowledge away or at least put it in a realistic sense of how they would be different. anyways have a good one.

As I've said multiple times in this thread now, I agree that skills mostly translate. Give them the same advantages in training, performance, development we do today and they would be great (most of them). But we aren't talking about that. We are just comparing today's standards in performance to back then. Today is obviously a higher standard. As everything escalates naturally. Plop a guy from 100 years ago today and he'd be screwed.
We aren't going to agree here like I said, so I'm leaving it alone. Talking in circles now -
