Newbie question about cards

I got to level 50 just now and it let me pick 3 legend cards. Picked Bagwell , Nenn, and Williams.
I was surprised to see these cards selling pretty well. From like 700-1000 stubbs.
Why are people buying these when you can just play and earn them for free? Is there some other value in these cards I dont know about?

thank you - newbie so apologize in advance but what do collections get you? stubs and exp? or a gold or diamond card?
And when you submit a collection you can no longer use the player right?

Stubs and do mostly. Go to collections. It will show all the rewards for each one.
No. When you collect cards they are useable. It's exchanges that take the cards away. When collected they can no longer be sold, exchanged or quick sold, though. -
