Question about playing online

I'll preface this by saying that this occurred well before server maintenance.

I tried to hop into an event game, my first attempt at online this year, and I instantly got a "no opponent found" message... instantly... multiple times. This was accompanied by the message that playing with cross play enabled, that I would play people outside of the xbox live network. Well, duh!

Cross play is enabled but I continually get these messages. Does anyone know what is going on, or had this happen to them?

I honestly wished I had stayed on the ps4 now. I have an xbox x coming and I switched to the xbox one in the meantime.
