Kinda lost

I'm not really a console player, mainly just PC games but I do have an XBox One X and I saw there was finally going to be a legit baseball game coming out that I could actually play, I jumped on it. I haven't played the show in years so a lot has changed and I don't understand a lot of it.
Playing on All-Star difficulty. Hitting on directional because I suck with the thumbsticks on controllers which is why I don't play shooters.
First, it seems like the game doesn't want me to hit homers. I'm a left fielder, 64 overall with 68/69 contact and 46/49 power. I don't expect to hit one every few games but I'm about 40% into the first season and I have zero homers. I have hit it to the wall in all fields but it seems like there's a shield that prevents me from actually getting one over. I can't understand it and it's driving me nuts.Second, I see a lot of pitches that I hit with the timing basically dead center, the pitch is over the plate and I would still just foul it off. This makes no sense to me.
I don't see a real difference in power swing and normal. I have hit balls to the wall on normal swings and I can hit a slow ground out with power. I don't use power unless I'm ahead in the count. Is it just me or what?
Last, I don't get what this whole attribute thing is where after every game it shows you increasing certain skills up and down. Starts at 30 and I think max is 50 but what is it? For example, it says I have 69 contact rating and 46 power but when I finish games, it shows those ratings much lower, contact is I think 42 and power is mid 30s. I'm not sure what all this is. Help?

It is confusing for sure and it took me awhile to figure it out and watching a couple of videos on youtube. Your base stats start at 30 and will slowly go up to 50 through training and play. Then you add on the stats from your archetype and perks. I know it is confusing and i hope this gives you a little more information. Also i forgot to add equipment is suppose to add to those attributes but right now it is bugged out. It wont show on your overall

Well I finally hit one so the whole shield theory is out the window. About time.
So what you're saying is when I'm in the clubhouse, look at my player and go to stats and awards and I got that circle in the upper right that says 64 overall and all my individual ratings, that means nothing in rtts play?

You're basically a Contact hitter with those stats (depending on your Vision) and are not gonna be a HR hitter/hit a lot of HRs till those pwr numbers go up. A lot of us don't use Pwr Swing much (as I have hit HRs off of Contact swing) as it's a feast of famine swing and even if you get Perfect/Perfect it's a roll of the dice if it's a HR. Pitch type, ball park, wind, baro..... all matter. Remember, this game is a Sim, so if you hit 15 HRs during the season be happy, that's pretty good. Have fun, and if you are mashing, up the difficulty. HR Derby is a good HR fix too

I actually just hit a second homer so I guess slowly it's getting better. Both were on normal swings as well.
One more thing that was odd that I couldn't understand. This is my second rtts player, first one I set the difficulty to dynamic because I know from playing past games that I usually start too low and I get "video game" numbers and I hate that because I like realism. At the same time in other games if I bump it up one difficulty level, I get creamed. I wanted to avoid that so I saw the dynamic level and see that it's supposed to adjust as you play. I set it to that and I get through pretty much my first season. I was striking out a ton and not getting many hits just due to the fact that I hadn't found the right camera I was good with and the hitting style. I think the first season I hit like .180ish and at least 150 strikeouts with that. At the same time, I noticed the difficulty level was bouncing around between hall of fame and legend! I couldn't believe it was set that high when I was going 0-4 with 2 k's a game. Is that dynamic play setting bugged as well? Sure seemed like it is.

You can tune Dynamic Difficulty to update sooner, try that. It probably went that high when you were mashing and it's taking a while to adjust ((tuned to adjust after a full level or something like that) play with it till you find your sweet spot
*Sorry I don't remember the exact option setting, but PS4 is off at the moment

Also, I’d like to add that your rtts player or any player for that matter is not going to swing at the same exact spot every swing, so you can have perfect timing but if the yellow circle in the strike zone, your bat radius, doesn’t line up you’ll foul it off, pop it up, or ground out. For me, this is one of the most frustrating things about this game, because it seems like some games, the yellow circle never lines up and I can’t make good contact, even with good or perfect timing. That’s if you’re using pure analog or directional. Overall though, I think this is a pretty solid adaptation of the show, and you’ll get the hang of it. Keep swingin for the fences! Cheers

Your power rating is bad. That is why you aren’t hitting homers. You are a contact player and contact players don’t hit homers consistently. Also the reason you are having good timing but the contact is still bad is because you are using directional hitting. The PCI (Yellow Circle) determines how good your bat to ball placement is. In directional that is randomly generated. So even if your timing is good if the computer decides your pci is off you are screwed. The only remedy is to use zone where you control the PCI placement. Power swinging shrinks the PCI when used so it is harder to make good contact so that is why it is likely not working well in addition to your power rating be bad.

When I was playing that one, I was never really "mashing". I hit like .170 or something all year. Did hit I think 6 homers or so, so maybe those made up for all the K's.
I was wondering that were the side effects of using power over contact swing. Figured it was some computer deciding thing.
I now have three homers on the year, this one using the power button so that's a plus.
Thanks for answering my questions guys.
