Out of position penalty
-
What is the penalty exactly? I believe it affects all fielding attributes but what is the % loss?
There isn't one for secondary positions is there?
-
I believe I heard somewhere that it’s -5 to fielding for secondary positions, but I would like to know for sure as well
-
The penalty is a 5% reduction in Arm Accuracy, Fielding, and Reaction for secondary positions.
I do not have a link for the source, but I heard SDS mention this in previous streams. The way to know the exact numerical penalty, is move a player to their secondary position, and review their new attributes.

Thanks for the info. I'm sure out of position must be much more severe. Probably 20% or more.

I don't think it's a standardized deduction for every card. For example, a guy who is a SS w/ 3B as a secondary could probably work in a pinch OOP at 2B. But even a diamond C will be completely unusable at 2B.

Just don't play people out of position. It may be fine for 50 innings but it'll be bottom 9 and you'll boot one into a 2 run blast.

The only position I'd ever consider it at is 1B

That and catcher are probably two of the worst. 1Bman dropping a throw from fielder
-
I think oop penalty is 50% to field react and arm acc with a max rating of 40, and move much slower.catchers and 1b will drop most thrown to them and a lot of passed ball for C. Mid infielder will be slow enough to not be able to turn double plays

I've been playing Boggs at 1B (secondary position) and he has zero errors in over 100 games (mostly conquest games). So it doesn't appear that 1B is much of a risk for a secondary position. I suspect it's more severe in online games?
And I wouldn't try completely out of position anywhere. -

I figured it would be very severe.
I'm guessing the penalties are more frequent in online play?
I say that because I've played Boggs at 1B (secondary position) in over 100 games, mostly conquest and he as zero errors. I wouldn't try it at any other position nor try completely out of position at all. -
Yes, the position penalty is for offline and online gameplay.
In previous years not knowing the actual penalty was an issue, but now you can see the actual attributes on the card after you move a player to any position. Just move a player to another position, then review their new attributes on their card. You will then notice orange boxes highlighted over their Arm Accuracy, Fielding, and Reaction attributes with their new numerical values for those three attributes at that new position.
Like someone stated above, it is definately not worth it to move a player completely out of position, as the penalty is too high, imo.

I posted this question because I had moved players around out of position in "manage squad" to see what it did and saw nothing. No orange boxes, no changes at all to their attributes.
I just checked that again. So how/where do you see that? I never play online so if it's there that would explain it.
I have played parts of a game with players out of position and yes, definitely a nightmare but not so for secondary positions as it shouldn't be a huge penalty. -
I can’t stand how they implement this into to the game, it’s so lazy. If a player plays multiple positions in real life then he should be graded out at each position individually. Don’t give us some lame generic penalty.
-
I don’t know if it’s universal but it appears to be -4 for arm accuracy, -4 for fielding, -4 for reason and probably -4 for blocking. At least that’s what Jose Ramirez is at second. You see the orange boxes when you go to put him into the position.
That’s for secondary position. Out of position the boxes are red and appear to be -8 in arm accuracy and fielding and -9 in reaction.

Press a or x on the card to replace them in your lineup and it'll show the attributes there when comparing to the replacement

Finally found that. That isn't exactly user friendly unless I'm missing something.
When I hit x on a starter it only brings up players in my inventory, NOT any on my roster (starters or bench) so it naturally brings up only options at that position. The only way I could check both secondary and out of position for any player was to first remove him off my active roster.
Thanks for your help.
