I was just looking some cards and realized that Walker Buehler has a higher overall than Kershaw and was hoping someone could tell me why. As in, what stats do the devs base their "3 year average" off of.
Buehler has had 2 MLB seasons with an average of era of 2.9-ish, average WAR of 2.8, 1.00 WHIP, and 180-ish strikeouts
Kershaws worst season arguably was 2018 where he had a 2.73, 3.3, 1.04, and 155
3 season average has been 2.69, 3.8, 1.01, and 182.It just doesn't make much sense to me having Buehler at 86 and Kershaw at 85. Maybe I'm just being too picky.

It kinda does when you dig into the numbers, Buehler has a 10.3 K/9 the last two years.
Kershaw has a 9.6 K/9 in the last three years and if you go the last two years, that drops to 9.1 K/9Buehler also has slightly better H/9 over that period to
ERA doesn't really matter because there is no stat that really encompasses that. I'm sure clutch factor and such uses it in some capacity, but not as direct as k/9 or h/9

So is a .7 K/9 and slightly better H/9 enough to warrant a higher overall when Kershaw has a full point higher WAR? I'm genuinely asking. Not much of a stat guy.

WAR isn't a stat in MLB The Show when it comes to overalls. Absolutely valuable in real life, but there isn't any stat that influences overall when taking WAR into account in-game.

Wait, so you're saying that he could hypothetically have a 10 point higher WAR on average during that timespan and it wouldn't make a difference in developing his playercard stats?

Well if he had a 10 point higher WAR, his other stats would likely be much higher to

For the sake of the discussion, let's say those other stats stay the same. His overall would still be a point less than WB's?

WAR isn't perfect. Maybe you saw bWAR in this time, but Buehler's 2 year average fWAR is 4.05, and Kershaw's 3 year average is 3.67. (2 year = 3.35)
I don't know how bWAR underrated Buehler's 2019 season, but I cannot agree with 182.1 IP 3.26 ERA 215 K becomes 2.2 bWAR.
