Question regarding dual entitlement and both systems.
-
I'll preface this by stating that I haven't been able to get my hands on a PS5 yet, but I fully expect to get one at some point in the 21 game cycle. Hopefully before mid-April so that this question is irrelevant....
But that being said, I read on The Show reddit that if you purchase any of the deluxe disk copies of 21 for ps4 (the ones that come with a physical ps4 disk and a ps5 entitlement code) then people with a ps5 would be required to have the physical ps4 disk inserted to play the game. This is supposedly to stop PS5 owners from purchasing a dual entitlement version, then turning around and selling the PS4 copy privately while simply playing using the ps5 code.
However, I've not been able to find any information on what happens if you purchase a physical disk ps4 version, and then after the fact purchase a digital only PS5 without the disk drive. Where would they expect you to put the disk?
Does anyone have any answer? Are the only options to either (1) Buy digital versions of both games and forego the steelbook, or (2) Buy the steelbook physical copy for PS4 and be forced to purchase the more expensive PS5 system with a disk drive?
Seems like an oversight, and possible issue people could unexpectedly run into since the information isn't super easy to find.

Kind of a moot point IMO since people that are getting the digital Ps5 are extremely likely getting the digital deluxe version (both digital copies) anyway

Not necessarily. I would have fallen into steelbook ps4 and digital ps5 category. The steelbook would be a nice collectors item.

I’m with you there. I used to buy the digital deluxe version of the show and then buy the steelbooks separately from other users or sellers on eBay. I’d hate to break up my collection of The Show steelbooks at this point, but the convenience of digital for the show is great.

Yeah, I also have a question on this. Both my son and I play and we have both the PS4 Pro and the PS5. Will I need to buy 2 copies of The Show then if we want to play at the same time? I pre ordered one today but seems like I might need to pre order another correct?

I don't think so. Not if you set it up correctly at least.
If you have an alternate account on your playstation, that account can play any games your main account has. You also only need PS Plus on one account.
So in theory, I believe if you have a digital version of the game on your console and log onto your account on you sons console, you would be able to install the game your account owns, and he would have access to the game and be able to create his own team.
Should work with other games too. I used to make 4 or 5 different accounts on NHL when I was playing that. And I made a 2nd MLB account this year just a few weeks ago.

Hmm - thanks. We actually both have PS+ but I can’t use the ‘20 version disc at the same time on both units. When I try, it says disc needs to be inserted even though it’s installed on both. This is what makes me think I may need to buy 2 games since we are both going to want to play on the 16th when this comes out and I don’t like to share...

You would need digital copies.

All other games released as disc with a free PS5 upgrade have required the disc to be inserted into the PS5 for the digital upgrade PS5 version to work. This will be no different to those.
I’m not an official spokesperson but to answer your question, those are going to be your only two options.
