Hope it's not true

Was watching a video on declining players of COD Cold War and the user showed a website called gamestat.com. It's not official but apparently close enough to see how many players have been playing.
I was curious and put it mlb the show. It said total player count of Mlb '19 was around 5 million.....mlb the show '20 was 1.5 million. That means they lost a lot of players. Even if it's not extremely accurate....that is a huge drop off.
Check it out it's called gamestat.com....it has the player count for all of the mlb the shows. It seems it always hovered around 2.5 million from 2014 on...then a huge surge in 19....I think because of the game being free....and then a huge drop off in this years?
Maybe this is why the are reaching out to more platforms? Either way I hope it starts trending in right direction for next years game or could be bad for funding/ investors...

Correction...its gamestat.com

What were 17 and 18?
19 not a good guide because it was a free PS Plus game later in the year. Data anomaly.
Edit: sorry I didn’t read your whole post. My bad.

It's definitely not a remotely accurate website IMO. This game is the best selling game in the history of baseball games so it's actually impossible to have 3.5 million less players than 19

Are these numbers total counts or live counts? Like The witcher 3 for example was sold an insane amount of times, but the actual player count would probably be very low since it's an old game. I know this game is not that old, but most of the player base has moved on around this time of the year in the cycle, happens every year in MLBTS and maybe even more so this year. Because the game is hot garbage. So it's relevant if these numbers are totals of people who have logged in at least once or if these numbers are actual average current player counts.

You mean people don't like Early Swing Simulator '20?

Not sure about the general perception, but I sure as shite don't.

I found the actual website the OP is speaking of. Gamstat.com. It's based on new trophies earned lmao. Which is not close at all to being an accurate representation of players because other than the score 1 run in every inning trophy you could get all the rest of them within a week on this game without trying

Prefer it over slow pitch softball with Barry Bonds.

Yeah that's why these kind of sites aren't helpful at all. They provide some information, but you need to put that information in the right perspective. If you want an accurate representation you should compare average live player counts over a whole month (for MLBTS preferably November or December) between the different games.

Right. And you aren't going to be able to ever get an accurate player count in this game because of RTTS and offline DD players. RS leaderboards for a certain month between the different games could help, but this time of year people tend to stick to events or offline play rather than RS anyway. Even with a game like COD this website is bogus because CODs multiplayer almost never has trophies and the Zombies trophies are insanely difficult. The most Sales/MTX sales is always more important than active players in a yearly release anyhow

Remember though, on those timeframes, MLB 19 was given out as a free ps game of the month. I know you said it in your comment, but I think that's very important context that needs to be stated again. I wonder what 19 numbers would be without it.

Mlb the show '17 was 2.7 million
Mlb the show '18 was 2.5 millionI'm still playing '19 since it was the last dime I vowed to give to gameplay. I still havent done all the content since I limited myself to one game a day due to frustration.
I feel that's there problem. Too much content. I still have no problem getting a game on '19 due to a lot of players still playing. My guess is all those players who got it for free, were overwhelmed with content that they felt no need to pay 60+ for a new game when '19 will keep them busy.
Also a lot of the signatures are around 10-18k. Packs are 1k...market is the wild west...some bronzes go for 1k....its crazy but really fun. I think that's why the new players they were trying to get wont pay for the new version when there is enough to keep them busy.
I'm playing bronze and silver players with full 99 teams since it's cheap. Also most of the players that got it for free are probably not the biggest mlb fans.
