Tell what hitting your opponent is using? I’m asking because sometimes I’ll be playing guys and it seems like constant liners in the gap, constant balls getting over the infielders heads. Repetitive no doubt homeruns, on absolute junk.
Is it the hitting input they’re using? My monitor doesn’t have sound so I do a lot more watching. Probably think I’m crazy. But just asking the gallery here.

A lot of people will say they "know" when someone is using directional, but there really is no way to tell. There are signs that can point to it like a person being unable to hit anything on the corners, but even then it's not an 100% tell.

No, there is no way to tell if they’re using zone, directional, or PA. I’ve heard people say that opponents who consistently foul off pitches on bad timing and/or on pitches way outside the strike zone are probably using directional. But tbh I think that’s a load of sack goo. I don’t think there’s really any way to tell.

Secondary question: will hitting with square do that if the pci is even remotely within the region of the ball? I’ve only used X until recently saw @eatyum say use circle on two strikes(thanks it works, my pitchers get hits now too)

You are much more likely to swing and miss when using square unless the ball is inside the inner pci (the “contact” pci). If you use X or circle, you will typically make contact even if the ball is only within the outer pci (the “vision” portion of the pci). This isn’t all bad, tbh. With less than 2 strikes, I’d rather swing and miss if I have bad pci placement if the alternative is a weak pop up for an easy out.

That’s a good idea. But i was referring to the feedback in the lower left corner after each swing.

I disagree. If you see that your opponent had good timing on a swing and completely missed a pitch within the strike zone, he’s using zone. No directional swing with good timing would “whiff”

Best thing you can do is watch your opponents timing and his bat speed.

If he’s power swinging he could. I used directional for the first few months when I was learning how to play the game in 19 and it is 100% possible to swing and miss on good timing on directional.

Ah. I did not know that. I’ve seen fouls with good but never a complete miss of the ball.

I've had it happen to me numerous times, have good timing with directional and miss. Sometimes I'll use directional on homerun moments and it's happened to me plenty with good timing.

I beg to differ...I use directional most of the time and just get PO'd every time I see good timing on a swing and a miss.

Oh it’s not necessarily about the sound, just trying to go off what I see on certain hits if that makes sense.
