I was going to say 3 things because my online stats for Nico aren't counting but I guess that is a known bug. So...
is it just me or is there a bug where you are attempting to throw to first on a cutoff only for the cutoff to throw home instead? I normally don't ever throw to 1B after a cutoff but a lot of people lately seem to over-extend their runners. First time I thought I just pressed wrong button in a panic, but then it happened the very next game and I am certain that time I pressed circle and not X.
FS Ke'Bryan Hayes has 98 fielding. I need a 1B for online stat grind so I take the OOP penalty which still gives him 78 fielding which is still pretty respectable. So why the hell can he not field a simple throw to get the batter out? Just boggles my mind.
Haven't experienced that, so can't comment
Because no matter what their fielding is, OOP doesn't work at any position.

for future reference if you ever run into something working strange or counter to how it's supposed to, it's most likely a fix of a previous years exploit.
if you need stats by first basemen any stats he gets wouldn't count anyway. It's primary position
Nolan Gorman hits count for Nico’s mission too. So not fixed, but doable if you have Gorman.
Answer to OP first question. If they have like a man on first they hit a ball to the wall man on first goes from 1st to 3rd but batter who hit ball is to slow to get to 2nd. First baseman goes to cover second, and your catcher is basically the cover person for 1st base. If that makes sense

No it was online stats for him. I was just trying to field an entire team for online mission purposes.
