New Catcher Attribute Idea

I think SDS should add pitch framing as a catcher attribute, allowing your pitcher to get more close calls the higher the pitch framing attribute is on each catcher. There's not a lot of really good catchers available period and the extra category I think would make it more interesting when evaluating catchers on the market. Just a thought for SDS moving forward I thought I would add here, thanks.

Agreed. One thing that's missing from this game is protecting with 2 strikes as a hitter. Nobody wants variable umps, but currently you can take all all day long with 2 strikes because there are no other variables besides whether the pitch is a strike or not. Pitch framing would make hitting with 2 strikes much more realistic because you'd actually have to protect the plate.

Definitely a good idea. The only question I have about it is that out of most complaints about the game RNG and randomness is probably referred to the most. Having an attribute like this means the umps will sometimes call balls on a location and the next time a strike on the exact same location. This adds to the whole RNG thing and can lead to incredible frustration if this goes against you in a high leverage situation.

I think it's a great idea but sadly my thought lately is they cant even get pitching a fielding to work properly so how in hell will they be able to do this? Too bad because it could make you use a worse hitter as a catcher if they are really good at it.

Now if only there was someone who has already done all the work to create a metric to measure the value of a catcher’s framing ability, complete with plots...

Yeah, i always though a catcher known for calling a good game should cause a pither attribute boost and a catcher who is totally offensive minded penalizes your pitcher.
