It would have been a 99, but SDS couldn’t figure out how to give him strike calls a foot and a half out of the zone as a perk.
Definitely a Cleveland fan. Still crying about the 95 WS that Cleveland was thoroughly dominated in. Lol
That 95 Indians team had perhaps the best lineup I’ve ever seen.
And that’s why they were completely shutdown in every aspect of the game during that series.
Non sequitur?
How so?
You essentially said that they were bad because they were good.

It was sarcasm. Yes the Indians were good. However they were definitely not the best. Their pitching staff had real problems that whole year. The Braves were far and away a much more well rounded ball club. Dominate pitching and a more than capable offensive team. And the World Series only proved the old moniker that good pitching will always beat good hitting.

He's actually a 95... And I agree.. he's a HOF pitcher with much better credentials than Felix, yet Felix can get to a 98
In my opinion, if you were good enough to get into the HOF you deserve a 99 card period. That hasn’t always been the case in this game but it should be. Just saying

Ah, gotcha. Sarcasm can be difficult to detect in text.
And I agree with you. I just didn’t say anything about their overall team or pitching staff. Only that their lineup was top notch.
From what I remember it was something like:
Lofton
Vizquel
Baerga
Belle
Thome
Murray
Manny
Sorento
Alomar Jr. -
Regardless of his rating and obtain ability, he’s a solid starter. I’ve pitched roughly 15 games with him in RS and he’s gonna give you 6-7 innings and give up 2-3 runs. My last game with him was a CGSHO vs a mid 800s Player. His biggest issue is the fact that the game will mess with his control, but when you have control of his pitches, he’s probably #3 after Kluber and Lodolo. People like to load up lefties, and that just makes him more effective. People in this game like to judge a pitchers fastballs / sinkers / cutters, but Glavine shines in the off speed department, which really helps if your opponent is hunting fastball. I will never claim he’s “worth” the high stub price to attain, but if you enjoy finessing your opponents and taking them off balance, he’s about as good as it gets.

Wholeheartedly agree. The card is quite effective if used right. Pitch speeds seem slower this year, so finessing is my preferred method. His sinker and FB have enough juice (too much IMO) to keep opponents honest.

Maybe not a 99 but compared to SDS giving some guys like Jacoby and fricken Spencer Howard. Jacoby has no shot at the HOF and Spencer Howard isn't even in the majors. The fact that they have higher rated cards than Glavine (in the HOF) in ridiculous.

No doubt! Been watching old baseball in quarantine. Every pitcher got an extra foot in the 90s. The special ones got the extra 1/2. The playoffs in the 90s had an even bigger zone. I had forgotten. Eric Gregg’s zone was dugout to dugout.

I have a feeling were not done with the Smoltz/Glavine/Maddux cards. If you look under nameplates there's one for all 3 combined that makes me think there's a program still coming this summer possibly making all 3 of them 99s? There's also nameplates for Griffey, Ortiz, Nolan Ryan, and Babe Ruth.
Glav is a sig though, those are top cards. Unless he gets a prestige somehow.

Yes as i stated above I understand what they are going to do with the nameplates for the Braves big 3 now. Your absolutly correct that will be his top card.

Mazeroski had 7 seasons with a war of 3.0 or higher, Baines had a total of 2 in 22 seasons!

It helps to have friends in high positions.

If Maz doesn’t deserve them Ozzie doesn’t. Not stating an opinion, but the comp is undeniable.
-
Who said this was it for Glavine? I can’t imagine one of the few Lefties with over 300 career wins only gets a 95. SDS can’t be that stupid

Ozzie has over double the WAR that Mazeroski does. 76.9 to 36.5

Different eras. WAR isn’t the be all/end all statistic some seem to think it is. WAR is easier to accumulate for positions like SS.
Neither could hit. Their career OPS are .001 apart. Both are considered the best defense players ever at their respective positions.

Ozzie may be the greatest defender at any position ever. Belanger was the best 2B defensively. Maz was great but not even in that vicinity

WAR is actually very useful for comparing players from different eras.
Also, Smith was at least a league average offensive player for some years during his career. Mazeroski was below league average every single year, according to wRC+.
Mazeroski’s offensive numbers make Smith look like a great hitter.
