“Elite” players out score their opponents in slugfests and couldn’t care less about pitching. Second, people aren't necessarily throwing balls on purpose. Pitcher control is awful

Pitcher control is easy for me , so that’s not a real excuse especially if people been playing this game for years now

I'm not even remotely close to being elite, but just don't swing then and take advantage of runners on base.

I'll take all the walks I can get.

FWIW, really elite players couldn't care less about pitching, their hitting will put them in a position to mercy rule anyone.

Games change year to year. Control for pitchers is down this year, so a lot of the time for me personally I'm trying to hit corners and the ball sails outside but also if I see that someone swings at every pitch outside why should I throw in the zone until they stop? That would be dumb. If you can't hold off the pitch and make me pitch in the zone thats on you, I'm not gonna give you something easier to hit just because you're swinging at everything. Thats my answer to the question. No, I don't try to throw out of the zone, but if you swing at everything I would be dumb not to.

I can tell you that if you’re playing on hall of fame difficulty or above, you don’t need to throw 90% balls to get people out. You actually can’t because of their discipline. I’ve had a ton of success with throwing different fastballs to different quadrants. Sinkers, cutters, etc. those pitches are the hardest to square up. You can then sprinkle in different offspeed pitches here and there, but those are easier to square up.

No doubt the solution is don’t swing at all the pitches , I have a good eye especially playing baseball for so many years but it’s frustrating to see thsts people strategy, when in real life no pitcher does that

Most elite players I’ve seen are terrible pitchers and base everything around hitting with little to no consideration for pitching. McGunski might be the best example of this in action, I’ve often wondered why he throws so many strikes, but I suppose when you’re able to score as many runs as he does it’s not an issue. Of the elite players I’ve faced, Rebel was probably the best pitcher. If you’re elite though it’s all about hitting .400 and no matter how many runs you give up, just score more. Probably why the game is in the state it’s in today, now I think about it. No emphasis on pitching and good defense, auto shifts so you don’t have to use any baseball knowledge to craft a strategy, hitting is the main focus always.........

In real life, every pitcher does this. It's called expanding the zone.
Every. Single. Pitcher will expand on what a hitter will swing at. If you show you're impatient, you'll never get a pitch in the zone to swing at. A pitcher would be stupid to do so. On an 0-2 count, you'll never see a strike in the zone. The object of pitching is to minimize chances plain and simple. If you can lay off bad pitches, then it's on you. Especially in real life

Actually pitchers pitch In the strike zone except when they need to, watch any game good pitchers throw in the strike zone except in strike out situations or to get a fly ball, ground ball dp. I can lay off a lot of pitches just seeing why that’s peoples strategy tho

They probably pitch outside the strike zone 50 percent of the time in those given situations not 80-90

Lance McCullers throwing 24 straight knuckle curveballs. Maybe 6 or 7 of them were actually in the zone.

    https://youtu.be/QjngPW6XVvI

Judge actually goes down on three straight that aren't even in the zone.

These posts are hilarious. If players pitch 80-90% balls, you should win everytime, period. Take your walks and stop complaining

    Wrong.
In real life a hitter won't swing at pitches outside of the zone that often, because they are major league hitters... but if they show they can't lay off a particular pitch outside the zone, they'll never get a pitch in the zone. It's literally the whole idea of pitching man.

Find weaknesses and exploit them. I'll throw 5 sliders in a row if I find you can't hit them.
A major league pitcher will too. It's what pitching is.
If you haven't noticed this watching IRL, next time pay attention. It's literally the point of pitching

Of course it isn’t! But people won’t throw meatballs either. Most of the people aim for the frame and you either hit or miss. It’s not rocket science

I’m not trying to pile on with the “just don’t swing” takes, but honestly, nothing will make you more successful at this game than learning to lay off bad pitches (not even balls - even pitches on the black that usually lead to outs, which is worse than a strike). Good players understand that developing that discipline is hard, and most players don’t have it, so of course they will use it to their advantage.

I’m by no means elite, but Showdowns actually helped me a ton with this, because the only way to succeed is lay off pitches until you get one to drive.

I know it’s frustrating, but you can’t really fault the pitchers for exploiting a hitter’s lack of plate discipline.

Eh not true. I know I'll use diamond pitchers with good control where I'll throw a fastball on the inside corner, hit the meter perfect and the ball leaks towards the middle. The pitching in this game leaves a lot to be desired.
