Is there any real competitive play in Showdown or is it completely dictated by AI? Randomized and scripted?
I've played NL Central 1-2 several times and they have an undeniable feel that I'm just watching the AI generate animation. Sometimes I win..sometimes I don't. Sometimes pitch locations feel right...sometimes they are obviously not accurate.
This was one of the modes the designers really hyped. It's just frustrating to play any software game that has no strategic approach that allows the player to "win".
Patterns of play that allow the player to get "better" or at least have enough consistency that a proper path to defeat the Challenge emerges. Like every other console game on the planet.
With Showdown, for sure, it's just a floating/randomized script that has no continuity that aligns with player's controller input.

Its completely dictated by AI. I'm being completely serious. They mess with the sliders to make your hard hit balls go directly to fielders and so that every single fielder is a gold glover. Honestly you just have to pray that your good inputs get rewarded.

Maybe it's a little bit of both. Everyone knows it plays weird-ish but I never failed a stage 2 showdown and hardly ever failed a stage 1 showdown. Not to brag but that wouldn't happen if it was "completely dictated by AI".

It’s a mix in my opinion. I can’t see anyone beating it with directional hitting as that would be 100% the game deciding. But my opinion is that the better players beat showdown almost every time because basic law of averages, if they square up the ball almost every at bat the odds are the they are gonna get rewarded more times than not. For average to better players that square up the ball half the time or more the sliders have more of an effect. And also really feel that first pitch swings are half as rewarding and feel like the game makes you work counts to have success.
I think showdown has been a great addition for sure because how bad pitching is there are a lot more balls thrown (feel like I’ve walked and hit twice as many players already than all of 19 combined) and it actually really helps your personal vision for balls and strikes as I feel like more players take closer pitches than normal this year. But the first showdowns definitely need to have the sliders adjusted so common fielders on veteran arnt acting like gold glovers and for hitting rewarding, that’s just an overall game fix that needs to happen

Facts. If anything the mode gives the CPU a buff. I'm not sure why it's such a hard to understand concept in this forum. Many other video games buff up final bosses, very hard to make a scenario or an event emulate a final boss in a sports video game. They know the pitchers are going to get smacked on veteran. They've obviously messed with the sliders and made input less likely to be rewarded in your favor. Meaning you just have to out-hit the BS sometimes. Sometimes they pipe down those slow balls down the middle from the start, other times you actually have to have discipline which is where a lot of people start to freak out.

I keep seeing this same sort of logic a lot out here. Not disputing what you are saying, but here is what I believe.
I've always used Zone. But, unless every controller I've ever used (at least 7 or 8 over the years) is flawed....the AI feedback (which is the spot of the ball and your swing plane at the end of each pitch) is the biggest lie about the game. The reason I say the biggest is because...your AB swing is the foundation of this game.
Everything else...fielding, base running, etc....is obviously controlled by AI randomization...when to insert an error, when to decide the base-runner was thrown out...etc.
So, the one point in the entire game you can really make a difference is in the bat swing. But, when the AI is not giving back accurate animation...you got nothing to separate skill from random software produced animation.

I completely agree which is why I said at the end hitting needs a fix overall as the same results on good inputs happen in all game modes. Showdowns increased cpu defense so these hitting flaws are greatly increased. Which is why it’s so frustrating. I’ve failed showdowns multiple times so I feel the frustration, I’ve just tried to accept that unless you square up the ball everytime, the cpu has too much influence

The game is just made to play it like your watching a game on TV. It’s like 10 plays a games where you think something doesn’t make sense. There’s your answer.
I did pitch back to back perfect games with micheal kopec. Idk what that means. But this games totally set up. All games are How wouldn’t it be. -
