First RS games ever
-
So I’ve always been an offline player. Mostly RTTS, however last year I started grinding the programs offline (really just to sell the bosses to buy better equipment for my RTTS player). Eventually I found collecting the cards I like and building my team actually really fun. But there’s only so many conquests you can conquer.
Now this year I’ve found myself logging in and not even wanting to load up RTTS. With all conquests conquered, and a decent enough team, I decided to play my first couple RS games tonight. I went 1-1 and now I have a couple questions that hopefully y’all can help me out with.

My loss was a “forfeit”. Tied 3-3 and coming up to bat in the bottom of the 8th, my opponent went in to the quick menu. I paused to pinch hit for my pitcher. The screen froze outside the pause menu. After a few minutes I got the message I forfeited. Does this happen a lot? Or was it a one off I was lucky enough to see on the first night?
-
I’m a total noob....how do I bring up the quick menu? Haha
Anyways I had a lot of fun. If my opponent sees this, you deserved the win. My team was far more stacked and you did more with less.

Quick menu is up on the d-pad.

@JaymesTime the reason your game was forfeited is because you have a limited amount of pause time. It does go up again after each inning, but you have to keep an eye on it when pausing, setting shifts, warming up pitchers and anything that halts the action. If you use all of your pause time up, your opponent will see a pop up that states “your opponent has exceeded their time in the pause menu. To forfeit their game hit square.” Which is what happened to you. People tend to sit there watching the clock and pounding square to instantly get the win over an unsuspecting opponent. I should also explain at this point that this has given rise to a semi-exploit. It’s a semi exploit because it’s very cheesy, but not taking advantage of anything other than the opponent trying to hit square as fast as possible to get the forfeit win.
What they do, is pause the game, usually when losing by a good margin, let the time expire and at the moment you’d get a pop up to forfeit and hit square, they send a friendly quit request. This pops up as the time hits zero, over the forfeit option and the impatient player, having sat and waited, accidentally hits square to accept the friendly quit. Just be aware of this it’s more common than you think.
Quick menu is up on the d-pad, quick shifts are down d-pad. SDS ought to provide better instructions that are easier to access.

I think there is a bug where you can get stuck in the pause menu and run out if time. Its never happened to me, but I've heard about it.
Anyway, don't get too stressed about wins and losses, and don't worry about ranking. Just try to enjoy baseball.

This is your answer. They were supposed to have fixed this based on patch notes (happened to me a month ago) but I hear people are still running into it.

Rough first game but it sounds like you took it in stride. I've had a lot of fun with DD over the last few years and I hope you do too!

I thought that might be what happened. The pause menu never actually pulled up when I pressed it, the game just seemed to freeze. So I didn’t even see the timer go down. Thought it might’ve been one of those “freeze offs” I’ve read about.
Anyways I appreciate all the answers!! I’m looking forward to jumping back into it this weekend.

(Scene cuts to Mr. Burns sitting behind desk with grin and rubbing hands together vigorously)
" Ahhh Eck-cellent!! "
Welcome to DD!
