If anything they make him have gold fielding and trash reactions, but to make up for it they’ll give him 125. Contact and 95 power to make up for it

So Jeter would be Tim Anderson basically?

Realistically the attributes would look pretty identical to SS Gwynn but he plays SS and has worse fielding. They would probably give him gold fielding to split it down the middle and try to make Yankees fans and people that want realistic defensive attributes somewhat happy. Probably a little over 80 speed

Any Jeter card should have awful fielding, but they’ll probably boost it out the [censored] so the idiots and Yankees fans don’t start a riot.

Even his fielding percentage isn't that great... 976... That's a point under Xander Bogaerts... About on par with Michael Young.

Yeah but its SDS so they'll give him 90+ fielding just because they can.

Wow good judgement from a Yankee fan

They really would though. They do whatever they want. If they went by statistics, Tulo would’ve had diamond fielding last year.

Yeah exactly, nobody has any power to stop them from giving any juiced attributes they want to anybody. Andrew McCutchen got a SS card last year and Orel Herchiser didn't. Nothing I can do about that, SDS does whatever they want.

I know what you are saying, but this was a really bad example. I love Hershiser in this game, but McCutchen had a really good career with the pirates. Hershiser had 2 good seasons

Which of his 4 years finishing top 4 in Cy Young voting were the 2 good years?

Gold fielding would be pleasing the Yankees crowd way too much. Silver is the only acceptable compromise.

I was exaggerating a bit. Hershiser had about 5 good years but was extremely average the rest of his career. 5 good years and 12 average years didn’t exactly scream SS card last year, especially since the card almost had to be a 98-99. It just didn’t make sense. I know there were some wrong choices for sig cards last year but Mccutchen getting a SS card made more sense than Hershiser not getting one

How many good years like Hershiser do you think Cutch had?

    (Answer is the same, 4).

Hershiser's 1988 season was slightly better than "good".

Any guy who starts 3 games of a 7 game playoff series while also appearing in relief in a 4th game of the same series has my vote for an SS.

I'd take Hershiser's career over McCutchen's 100%. Both have roughly the same fWAR, but he's a postseason hero and champion. One of the best postseason pitchers ever, pretty much carrying his team to a title in '88..
    He also had longevity.
The cy young and mvp cancel eachother out.
McCutchen just isn't aging well.. If he had, it would have been a different story. Of course he can correct that, but my money is on him not being much again..

And while I somewhat agree, McCutchen has fWar very similar to Hershiser when McCutchen’s career was derailed by injury. And while I am a huge believer in using War as an argument for hitters, pitching War is extremely flawed and it almost 100 percent based on Longevity. Bartolo Colon has higher fWar than Hershiser ffs. And Colon only got a sig card as a meme pick

As a general rule of thumb, baseball-reference is better for comparing pitchers, and Fangraphs is better for comparing hitters.

But yeah, I’m not as big of a fan of pitcher WAR either, especially when comparing it to positional WAR. A decent SP is always going to put up more WAR than a decent position player, simply for the fact that starting pitchers are in direct control of the game and have the ability to almost guarantee their team a win.

Yes, I agree it's hard to compare a pitcher and hitter based on anything really. But it paints a picture. You talk like longevity is a strike against someone... It's a huge plus in my opinion. Colon is a valuable pitcher for many many years. He's only a meme because he looks like Chunk from the Goonies...

Also, as I mentioned, if McCutchen's career wasn't derailed by injury and aging decline we wouldn't be having this conversation. He was obviously a bigger difference maker.. but that happened so.. here we are. Strike against him

Has any player with Jeter's defensive shortcomings produced more memorable and historic defensive plays?

Gonna be borderline unusable. If they base fielding rating off of defensive metrics, man is gonna have 50 fielding lmao

Very true but can you imagine him being the covet and new player for '21. They could announce it right now and 83.7% of the fan base would pre order right now even with the game in it's current state...

Genius move if they did it
