Put Nolan at first the other day and I don’t think he’s made one clean play since. Why do players fielding go down just cause they move position. Like I don’t think players aren’t able to field as well cause they moved from right to left or first to third.

I understand why they did this cause u shouldn’t be able to put any player anywhere. But each player should have one secondary position that doesn’t affect their rating and then any others do. Obviously if they don’t have secondary they get the out of position penalty.

I just had a game where he wouldn’t go after ground balls 2 feet to the right of him

That's why these forums are great.

You get one guy posting about how secondary positions are OP.

Then about 30 minutes later, you get another guy posting how secondary positions should be better.

Now try to please both of these guys.

Nolan shouldn’t even have 1B as a secondary.

In real life, every big league ball player should be at least somewhat competent at all 7 positions. You don’t get to the major leagues without being able to at least field a routine grounder or track down a can of corn.

But the game needs to forgo realism in that regard to protect lineup realism. Otherwise, we would all stack our lineups with completely unrealistic teams. No one wants to play an opponent who just sticks Frank Thomas at SS and Lou Gehrig at 2B so he could make room to also have Jimmie Foxx at 1B.

There needs to be a significant enough defensive penalty that actually deters people from doing this.

I definitely agree with fielders taking a hit at secondaries though. Even playing LF and RF is different. Reading the ball off the bat, how the ball spins coming from a LH or RH swing. I think it’s fine how it is.

I agree with this. Nolan's never played anywhere but 3rd base his entire MLB career. I think secondaries should only be given to players who have played other positions in the bigs; like David Fletcher who is a plus defender in LF, yet only has infield secondaries.

I agree 100% but the actual utility players in real life should be able to play any of their positions without being dinged for playing a secondary position IMO.
