How does the new Replace Pitch training work?
-
I've been trying to google this, but all that comes up is a decade's worth of us being disappointed that we couldn't do this before.
If I were to have a Circle Change and did Replace (CIR) Slot with a Splitter, would it keep my stats for VEL/BRK/CTL? Or would it make me start over?
I miss the days of being able to play with peak Felix Hernandez, so I'm trying to gradually change my RTTS SP to feature a repertoire similar to 2014 Felix.

Just tested it, it the replacement pitch starts over and needs to be re-trained. Gross

Does that not make sense though? Do you expect a pitcher just to able to learn a new pitch and throw it effectively right away and not have to gradually improve it?

They branded it as a way to easily change and develop your pitch repertoire so I could see it go either way.
Yes I get your point, but in RL many pitchers tweak their pitches in more subtle ways i.e. turn their cutter into more of a slider, or change the shape of their curve. So if the velocity was kept, an 86 mph CT would become like an 83 mpg SL, which is pretty much how it would be. And it's hard to use that argument to explain how an established pitcher who replaces any pitch would start off with little velocity and need to gradually build it up.
I get why they did it, you need an implementation that is as simple as possible and serves as many users as possible, but it isn't ideal.

Excellent point. Maybe next year they will code in some transition calculations from certain pitches to others, eg curve to slurve or fastball to running fastball etc so you only drop say 20% from the attribute points on those transitions. Would just need to have it read from a data table when selecting to swap a pitch. Simple enough.
EDIT: would need to compare new pitch to all pitches in player’s repertoire, not just pitch being dropped. This logic could also apply to adding a new pitch.
