Why am I matching with opponents 3,000 miles away?

@x-814-x-MAFIA-x_PSN you’re an idiot
You cant answer that? Seems to me it should work both ways.
Or maybe you're just in a slump and need to make yourself fell better by blaming the connection of the game.
Oh, BTW, thanks for proving my point from another post/thread.
Said it's easier to call people names, that don't agree with your post, than it is to have a intelligent conversation.

@x-814-x-MAFIA-x_PSN Doesn't work that way. If you match people that far away someone is having a bad experience. You simply can't match people over 1000 miles away on p2p connections. It is going to be bad for someone.
It plays like [censored]. I don't know exactly why, I'm not a network engineer. I'm going to trust myself that has played baseball at very high levels and online video games since Socom was released. Just because YOU don't see issues doesn't mean none exist. I'm sure if I played in Florida with trash wifi my game would play great. In fact, my game used to play better on my T-mobile hotspot but unfortunately, T-mobile doesn't work any more.

Why is it only bad for one person though?

Lag compensation and P2P, it always favors the weakest connection.
You can research a little bit and you will understand it better, just a quick search will clear most of your doubts.
For P2P to work both connections that are sharing data must be strong.

When you say "weak"; do you mean internet speed?

@x-814-x-MAFIA-x_PSN yes, but the main culprit is upload speed. While advertised speeds are always theoretical, the real vs theoretical upload speed gap is huge. And it’s always taking a backseat to downloads.
If a person plays on WiFi, it’s even more amplified. Commercial routers don’t offer upload priority.

But, unless you ask them and they can always lie, how do you know that it's YOUR opponent's connection which is worse than your connection?
-
@x-814-x-MAFIA-x_PSN because the speeds go down to the lowest common denominator. The person with the lowest speed won’t notice much or any lag, while the other being throttled will see a big difference.

When I lived in Australia 3,000 miles was practically a local game

When are you playing? If you are playing at times when a lot of people are online, youll be more likely to match with someone close to youThis is simply not true. I play at peak hours all the time and majority of opponents are east/west coast even though I am in the middle of the country. I do get some St. Louis/Chicago people too. I rarely see KC people. Maybe like 3 all year so far. When you have fiber internet the game matches you with people further away a lot of the times for some reason.
I did do some research and @yankblan_PSN may be on to something. Upload/download speed is literally the only thing I haven't looked into in 4 years because it typically doesn't matter especially when dealing with games that have dedicated servers. Tonight I am going to test something with this regarding upload/download speeds and lag compensation. May not help but sure can't hurt.
So I made it to 800 level last WC so now this WC is HOF. Due to the warping 120 mph blitz balls, I've literally only played like maybe 6-12 HOF games all year. Really used to like the HOF game but not with the connection issues lately. One of my last HOF games was 9 ab's 8 k's 1 perfect perfect out. Was not going to sit through a game with 20k's. I did that one other time when the connection was horrid. I'll just take the L and move on. Zero chance of winning that game anyway when you can't score.

Makes sense. I did a vpn through Australia last year (one of the many things I have tested in this game) and played a top 50 player. He had 4 runs through 8 innings at Shield Woods. Had I played this person on my connection, no doubt he would have mercied me in 4. Having that what I call "magic internet" is the hands down best advantage you can have in this game. Having super fast fiber internet is a huge disadvantage in this game.

@iBonafideScrub__PSN I did try something last night. Now, it was only like 4 all star games and 1 HOF game so a very small sample size. I need to play some more which won't happen until this weekend.
4 games all star, 1 on HOF. Now, I have only played a handful of HOF games this year and don't remember scoring more than 5 in any of them including one game where I struck out 8 of the first 9 hitters and had a perfect perfect caught. The first game on all star I adjusted too much and it was extremely bad. West coast very laggy and didn't even finish the first inning. Adjusted something again and next 3 all star games didn't make it past the 3rd inning. I think one was a 3 straight HR game to start and they dashboarded the 3rd. Another one I scored 11 in 2 innings.
Now the HOF was interesting. It was against Skubal who I have been struggling against on all star. I was down 3-2 after 5 but was seeing the ball much better. I was actually catching up to the outlier fastball and seeing the breaks much better. PCI placement was just off. At that point I didn't even care if I won or lost. I was just excited to actually be able to see and catch up to outlier which I have been struggling with in a lot of all star games. Hence, why I haven't played much HOF. I ended up winning I think 6-5 but think I had like maybe 5 perfect perfects. Now, I did get blown away by a few fastballs I wasn't expecting but I am in my 50's so that doesn't bother me at all. Win or lose, it was a very enjoyable experience and I wouldn't mind playing HOF when it is like that. I actually enjoy the HOF games when the connections are good. I am not like most people, I just want to have enjoyable games like this win or lose. I only struck out 5 times and I think Skubal ended up with 5 runs in 5 innings as I chased him in the bottom of the 6th.
I'll know more this weekend when I play my 6 HOF games in Gold 2. Again, if the game plays like this I will enjoy the experience regardless of what my record is in those 6 games.

But keep in mind the person actually sitting in Australia may not have a bad connection (my connection was actually great when I lived in a more remote area but was [censored] in Brisbane)
I don't really know what the solution to this is. I'd personally love it if they made offline and online play share rewards, truly play how you want. But there is a not insignificant portion of the online community that needs to feel special for playing online. And if you have the best reward paths locked behind online (the ranked path is quite superior to everything else in the game and it hurt sitting this inning out), along with a fair amount of cards, you need it to be accessible to everyone.
-
@Teak2112_MLBTS keep in mind the MP path cards are QS value (so cheap on the market) after 10 days, while some offline rewards are unsellable.
