Bored and bad multiplayer internet connections
-
What I find that helps is turning off cross-platform in your profile. I play on ps5 and only play people on PSN and have had zero problems since doing that.
-
@JenkinMeyer_PSN I've had crossplay off since the beginning.
-
Ah. Well good rule of thumb is just blame Spectrum. All internet issues are typically Spectrum at the end of the day.
-
@DemIsE4_XBL you were right from day 1 on this. Online gameplay quality is directly proportional to how good or bad your connection is to someone else
The fact that this connection type is still being used in 2025 by the company who has the sole license for MLB games, is frustrating forsure
I haven’t had a single freeze off this year. But I’ve had plenty of games where you can just tell the connection is bad leading to negative experiences

@doobiebross66-72_PSN how do you propose SDS controls people ‘s setups?
-
@yankblan_PSN It has less to do with people's setups and more to do with the matchmaking. Most people have bad internet. It is just a fact and most times people can't control it. However, why should someone in KC with Google Fiber be matched up with someone in NY on wifi and more than likely connecting to the NY server on a p2p connection? I watch certain streamers (won't name names) and I say no wonder they are hitting .400 on legend. This stuff looks like slow pitch softball compared to what I see. People will try to say that you can't see the difference on a stream, I can. I used to watch MovieGaming who was also on Fiber in the KC area and I used to see warping pitches on his stream ALL the time. The pitch speeds I saw against him and against other streamers were vastly different. Not sure where he disappeared to but he probably got tired of trying to hit the 120 mph blitz [censored] he was seeing on legend. Boston, Florida, Chicago, NY, etc all have notoriously bad internet. I can promise you someone from NY plays on the NY server the majority of their games which makes their games consistent. My pitch speeds differ all the time. It is a huge reason why I don't play this game competitively any more and haven't for a while.
This will never change for 2 reasons. The main one being p2p is way cheaper. The other reason is top players that have been playing slow pitch softball for years wouldn't be able to go 200-10 with dedicated servers because the playing field would be drastically leveled. I truly wish I had the money to fly one of these top streamers to my house and have them try to play this game on Fiber internet here.
I tried VPN for a while to see if it helped and it didn't. If I did a VPN through NY, I would get matched with someone in Denver or California due to my internet. If I went through LA, it was someone on the east coast. Funny enough the best VPN game I had was the time I did VPN through Australia. I played a top 50 player and they only scored 4 runs in 8 innings at Shield Woods last year. Had I played him on my internet I would have been mercied in 4 easily.
I have A+ internet with an A bufferbloat rating (meaning my network does not get congested). Best advantage in the game is bad internet near a server city.

@DemIsE4_XBL You should look into updating to better internet.
-
@yankblan_PSN they obviously can’t, you know that.
How about a ping or connection indicator when on the select pitcher screen or lineup screen? Seems simple to do considering it used to be a thing.
How about improving matchmaking and servers on their end? You can’t convince me that there’s nothing they can’t try to internally upgrade on their side to help with H2H connection

I appreciate all the replies guys. What I see typically is BR and EVENTS gameplay and connection is atrocious. It isn’t worth playing. I can typically tell internet is going to be bad when going through menu or if all my contact is soft. Of course base running as well amongst many other things. I’ve noticed I can get stomped by below average players with terrible connections. The dinks they pull of and the defensive errors on my end etc… I will average out around 900 by end of year if I actually start playing more ranked games but 1 out of 3 I play right now is too laggy. And immediately I’ll request a friendly and message the person and they typically never accept even though I’m something like 28 and 9 or something. Many of which I just quit due to connection. My point is I can jump on a BR match and go one for 6 on perfect perfect outs with a good connection and deal with my opponent getting early and late dinks or I can hop on bad connection and it’s just unplayable yet my opponent who’s below average can hit the ball well. None of it makes sense to me. I’m out of Texas

I would love for someone to explain to me how I can score 6 runs against the CPU on goat and be early on fastballs and get blown away on all star by fastballs. Could it be that 90%+ of my opponents are on the east and west coast?
