The strike zone
-
Over the years sds will implement the new rules that the mlb have, the DH, pitch clock, and disengage rule. Why is the strike zone still wrong?
The game only calls 50/50 on the black strikes. Why isn’t the zone correct but every other rule is correct?

What’s this “new rule” regarding the strike zone you’re referring to? If you’re playing online or diamond dynasty the umpire setting will always be set to “perfect” which is what you’re talking about. If it’s more than 50/50 out of the zone it won’t call it a strike. Umpires have to be set to average or another umpire setting to get different calls, but that’s only offline.

You sure you’re watching MLB baseball, or are you watching local t-ball baseball bruh?

I don’t think either of the respondents understood the OP; he’s asking why, if SDS implements the new rules and can obviously change rules, can’t they get the old rules right?
I’m with you, OP. Not calling strikes correctly kills pitching.
-
It’s not a new rule. I’m asking how they can add new rules but can’t get an existing one right… they game will call 50/50 pitches strikes. Not any part of the ball going over the plate like the rules..
-
Thank you for understanding lol. It always bugged me that the strike zone works how it does in this game.

This is one of the worst and most frustrating things about this game in H2H play
SDS literally cannot code what a strike is by the definition of a strike in the rule book
If any part of the baseball is in the zone when it crosses the plate, by definition, that is a strike
But in this game? Like you said OP, it’s 50/50 at best which leads to some very frustrating experiences in H2H play
It’s pretty embarrassing that SDS can’t correctly code what a strike is

From what I can tell, the strike zone box that we see in-game extends beyond the edges of the plate; therfore, what looks like a 50/50 strike to us is actually an edge strike, so the question remains, why can't SDS make an accurate strike zone box?
-
@P0pa-Cherry_XBL, I certainly can’t speak to all views, since I only use Retro, but that box appears to line up pretty well with the plate in my monitor.
If it’s what you say, and the box itself isn’t rendered correctly (even in the feedback screen sans plate), then that’s almost worse.
Either way, it should be corrected; as is, it’s akin to needing to grab more than 50% of the chalk down the lines to be called a fair ball. As offensively-minded as this community is, people would lose their minds over that.
Let’s give pitching a little love…

I was going to make a new thread about this, but I searched and found this one. Now that we've seen ABS on a big stage, it is hopefully clear to even the most casual fan how the strike zone is defined.
It would really be great to get some clarification from SDS as to whether what appears to be incorrect in game is:
- Known to be incorrect and planned to be fixed
- Known to be incorrect and unable to be fixed
- Believed to be correct based on differences between the internal strike zone and the zone outline rendering we see
- Believed to be correct because of a different interpretation of the rules (hopefully we could also hear an explanation if this is the case)
@SDS_JoeK_PSN, maybe this something you could help get an official statement about? This is a pretty fundamental thing on which we should all be able to agree. It surprises me more people aren't vocally upset about how the game represents the strike zone and determines balls and strikes. I think the myth about the ball needing to be at least 50/50 is pretty widespread, but seeing ABS results on TV should eventually resolve that.

Would love to hear an answer to this (or, better, a plan to address the shortcoming)… with the end of power creep, this is very important to anyone who cares about pitching; shrinking the zone against a bunch of 100+ hitting attribute 99 overalls tips the balance too far toward the hitter.
