Pitching Perks Not Unlocking

That's the truth of it, but it seems some people are just being stubborn and unwilling to understand that reality of it.
I've got 2 Cy Young awards and 1 pitching perk for my two way player. Glad it's working for you though.
-
@randy.sorensen_MLBTS Same for me on my first toon I got 1 Perk on my second I have two so far. Pulse pounder and something else lol, I don't even know... But yeah. Its cool that it's all situational but, based on your player build and performance it may take a long time to see them all. Like base running... especially? If you're not running on your own or getting on base or stealing etc...might not ever see em'

I’m having the same issue has mlb made any comments on this?
-
It seems like it should be a pretty easy fix. For as much as they changed up RTTS this year you'd think theyd care enough to at least take the time to fix it. But alas.....
-
@PriorFir4383355_XBL you'd think the people in here who are in their second or third season would have been in enough situations to unlock more than one or two.
And I was getting postseason specific fielding perks during the regular season.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. I've obtained every batting perk, missing one fielding and one baserunning, and missing all but one pitching perk after a couple of Cy Young campaigns. I definitely don't think the developers intended for that to happen.

I'm quite confident that all the perks they have been awarded are activating when the situations they are designed for are all present. I think what's driving this is the reality that how the perks work was altered significantly in MLB 25. In return for not having a limited number of perks constantly "on" you instead can have a whole host of perks awarded to you, but they will only activate in select situations.
I think vice understand that change, and go through their awarded perks to understand when they will be active (meaning what situations must all be present), then instead choose to complain about them not working as they did in MLB 24 and earlier titles.
-
@PriorFir4383355_XBL my closing pitcher in AA in May 2025 has more pitching perks than my starter with 2 Cy Young awards. Maybe it did not happen to you, but I find it extremely hard to believe this is working as intended.
-
Well, you could also argue the game is not letting you get into those positions, I see someone else claiming to get subbed out 1. Out from a perfect game, I’ve been subbed out in the 8th inning as a hitter on close games being the home run champ leading the league in RBI’s. Guys there is some thing wrong with the coding. I played a pure starter and was drowning in perks that I couldn’t even raise my overall. Did you know you are also promoted on your overall? You could 99 out all pitches and perks, be a god in double A . But if your rateing is 60 you will never be promoted. You could never put points in your pitches and just lvl another stat to get 67 over all and be in the majors in two months. We are not mad or stupid, we are pointing out a potential problem. I mean he’ll, if they don’t want a two way player to get every perk and only get pitching ones for all star appearances like I’ve been getting that’s fine. Just say it
-
@PriorFir4383355_XBL I don't think it's a matter of them activating correctly...in my opinion they definitely work and active. Its the fact that you will not get them in the first place if you don't encounter that specific situation first. The perk will not become available unless that specific situation occurs and some of us are not seeing those situations...I think it would be better to eventually open all perks via another method so that by the time we hit post season or our second season that they all would be available to choose to put points into or not. ?

There is an unexplained aspect for when perks are awarded. I agree with that concern. Frankly, I don't know how or when they are awarded either. But, I've only played three seasons combined of high school, college, and professional baseball in RTTS and I have all the hitting perks, all the base running perks, and all but one of the fielding perks. I do agree that the pitching perks are slower in coming as I only have four of them with about a dozen remaining inactive (unawarded).

@luckduck53_PSN Okay I was hoping to see if someone else noticed their perks not triggering. I was lucky enough to get Lone Wolf from the college selection and had a few starts in the minors where it would activate fine. But I think ever since the recent update it just doesn’t trigger at all and I’m in plenty of 0-2 counts where it’s supposed to activate.

I've noticed a similar problem with my two-way player (SP/C), so I decided to try a Starting Pitcher to compare perk progress, and here's what I've noticed:
The description for hitting perks says "... drive in runs, move the runner over, and rack up clutch hits...", which seems to be pretty straightforward. I have the difficulty cranked way down, so these happen a lot.
The description for pitching perks says "...strike out batters, hit your spots, and keep the scoreboard clean..." With the difficulty set very low, I 'seem' to do this a lot with my two-way player, but perks aren't unlocking. With my SP, however, I started to notice "high leverage outs/strikeouts", and have unlocked a few perks shortly after getting a few of these. The "high leverage" situations I've seen so far are:
7th inning, game tied at zero, runner on base, final out
8th inning, game tied at zero, bases empty, first out
9th inning, game tied at zero, bases empty, first and last out
extra innings, game tied at zero, runner on second, first and last outWith my SP, these occasionally happen because the offense gives me no run support, but with my two-way player, they never happen - because we are never tied (or losing) in the 7th inning or later when I am both pitching and in the batting order.
The Fielding perk description says "... highlight-reel catches and flawless plays...", but my SP unlocked one during a routine groundout where he wasn't involved in the play, and another striking out the batter for the second out in the third inning, so I don't know what's going on there.
I haven't really tested out the Baserunning perks, so I have no insight to offer for that.
I hope an upcoming patch will improve this.

@modad_MLBTS
This observation is invaluable. It looks like two-way players are always killing it by late innings (multiple home runs + near-perfect game status), so the pitching perks would not meet the condition to activate.
So, for 2-way players to activate pitching perks, we would have to refrain from hitting home runs or scoring runs and hope our teammate doesn't do that when we're not batting.
As a game developer myself, I would say this is a design oversight that should be fixed. We are actually getting punished for pitching perfect games and hitting home runs in the same game.
My two-way player currently has a 0.00 ERA and is on a 40+ game hitting streak. So I guess I'll try to hit singles to extend my hitting streak, while not stealing or simply try to get caught to stop the teammates from sending him home.

I just had a pitching perk unlock! Considering it was my 126th MLB start, and first start since game update 7 (that doesn't mention any updates regarding perks), I wonder if they updated something.
-
I decided to download update 7 and see if the same magic would happen for me, and it did - I unlocked 2 pitching perks.
It was my SP/C's 7th start in the majors (at the end of May, so still before the All-Star break - which was mentioned in a previous post as a point where some had gained a perk). After striking out the first batter in the 4th inning of what was at the time a 1-0 game (we were winning), I unlocked the First Strike perk. At the end of the game (a perfect game - I did mention I have the difficulty set really low...), I also gained Pulse Pounder.
There were no 'high leverage' outs in the game, but there was a successful boss challenge and a couple of successful dynamic challenges (pitching related - no challenges came up when I was at bat).
I checked the patch notes, and as you noticed there was no mention of anything regarding perks in the RTTS changes.
Which means I am now back to not understanding what is going on for unloicking pitching perks. No direct correlation that I noticed for anything that I suspected would trigger it.
Hopefully that means something has changed for the better, and I will go back to playing as my two-way player.
I will post any further observations in this thread (unless it gets locked) if I learn anything useful.
But for now, I have to decide if I should spend the tokens I just earned on improving my stats or upgrading Pulse Pounder...
-
I just updated the game and it looks like they fixed the pitching perks, just unlocked one with the 2nd inning. Also got an option to earn a perk through dynamic challenge which I think is new
-
Same here I just tried it out today, can confirm that it gave me pitching perks!
-
Was coming in here to give the same update. First game played after the latest game update I unlocked 6 new pitching perks. It's aggravating that they don't acknowledge there was an issue or fix in the patch notes. I understand you can't and won't detail every change in a patch note byt when it's a bug impacting gameplay it would be nice to know it's resolved without trial and error
-
Also, if it hasn't been mentioned, Pulse Pounder does work... For home games. But the perk still states Away games
