Need to fix this. When pro infielders dive for [censored] IRL, almost every time they either glove it or the ball is just beyond their reach. In RTTS, there are way too many times when CPU infielders dive and the ball bounces off their glove, arm, or torso. The logic for the diving animation is messed up.

I don't agree with this assessment. In real MLB games there are many cases where a fielder dives just to knock the ball down and keep it in the infield. In my experience, the odds of this sort of thing happening does not appear skewed from actual baseball games.

Regardless of the results there are far too many diving plays in this game, period. The fielders cover way too much ground, even the slow low rated guys, and it’s clearly a flawed game mechanic to cut down the already elevated hitting stats.

    In a word, no.

Your statement is 100% pure opinion. So, stop stating it like it's an objective fact. It isn't even close to being factual. I see many grounders with eyes in this video game. So, the fielding is quite close to reality. MLB players today are vastly more athletic than they were even a few decades ago, and where that most shows up is in fielding statistics, which accounts more than any other single factor to why batting averages are down about twenty points from where they were in the 1980's and earlier.

And that is a fact. Not an opinion. SABR has released the stats of fielding range and the reduced levels of hard contact earning base hits.

I think this game does a good job accurately replicating modern day MLB fielding levels.

That is not why batting averages are down. I love how your opinion is fact in your mind. The reason batting averages are down is because relievers are throwing harder than ever with insane movement and hitters have to face 3 or 4 different pitchers on any given day. We are all entitled to our opinion and yours is as flawed as anybody else’s so get off your high horse.

Pre 1980,the focus was on pitching to contact so very athletic good fielding would have been more needed.
Pens back then were pitchers at the very beginning or end of career or those that couldn't go distance effectively.
The combination of good to great arms in the pen combined with pitchers focusing on swing and miss stuff and racking up strikeouts and hitters approach is what has lowered batting averages.
