First thing to consider is that RTTS is not a mode to play if you're really looking to hit a big contract that your current team won't offer you. Having tested it out to see what would happen, say your current teams offers something like $100 million over five years, and you decline for free agency. At least in MLB 23 what then happens is you get one offer from one team that won't be as rich. If you decline that you get another offer from another team that is lower than what the previous team offered!
You don't get the opportunity to consider multiple offers at the same time. It's one by one offers!
So, my advice is to only go free agency if you just want to play for another team. And even then, there is no way to ensure you get an offer from any one or even two teams you desire. In my case, a player who had just won league MVP, postseason MVP, and World Series MVP went from a truly below market deal with the team he did all that for, all the way down to lower and lower offers until his only option was a minor league deal valued at about $2 million for just one season!
Oh, and my player was only in his 15th season at the time!
