Dynamic Difficulty in RTTS 24

I think I may be a little unclear about how this Dynamic Difficulty thing works. My pitchers certainly see a challenge, facing batters at the Veteran to All-Star level. Whenever I come up to bat, though, I'm always at the Beginner level, resulting in a batting average that stays over .600 for the season. Am I not supposed to face better and better pitchers as I progress? Or will I always be at beginner because I'm using the "timing" method to control my swings?
