I really like this so far.

I'm really enjoying the way that this iteration is unfolding... I'm not sure how much creep there's going to be in terms of available 99s by the end of the season, but I really hope the number is quite low (I'll be extremely happy if you need all wild card spots to field an all 99 team in the final season).
The game just plays better like this; not every hit is a home run (though there are still plenty), balls land on grass in the outfield (sometimes going over a fielder's head!), infielders can't get to every ground ball hit with less than a 105mph EV... it actually plays much more like a real game because defense seems to matter a bit more.
There are things to work out, of course, as the new fielding animations are nice, but that "urgency" still leaves a little to be desired when a runner can be checked back toward the bag on a left-side grounder and still make it to third easily after the ball is thrown to first, but this is definitely better, in my opinion, than the all high 90's HR derby that was last year's game from the get.
I like that players have weaknesses, and that you sometimes have to choose between speed/defense and slugging, or power and contact. I also like the fact that though things will ostensibly start over in Season 2, some of the initial grind to fielding a passable team won't have to be repeated as there are plenty of decent Core cards to go around (and that some cards, including Live Series, that are "put away" when their betters arrive this season will be relevant again)...
BTW, the new flowing hair models really do look nice; it's hard to feign realism when some players are running around with a trapezoidal block of what is supposed to be long hair affixed to their neck.

I agree, The gameplay is best it’s ever been…My only in game gripe is I have noticed TONS of times when the runner is clearly thrown out but is called safe waaaay more times than not.

I've always enjoyed the game for the first month or two more than any other time of the year when the overalls and ratings our atleast somewhat realistic.. I don't enjoy having a rookie or some future star having better stats than hall of famers

Wouldn’t it be nice if player-controlled defensive players had the same urgency as the CPU players? I also can’t remember ever having so many runners from second being thrown out at the plate from CPU outfielders. I’ve had multiple 80+ speed runners thrown out by outfielders on balls hit into the gap nearly to the wall that shouldn’t be possible. While I’m at it, why does a player like Ronald Acuna who had 70 stolen bases last season have 80 speed? I’ve seen him score from first on singles multiple times in real life. How does that translate to 80 speed?
