MTO on veteran gets you 52 stars in around 5 hours. I think it's a fun mode too. Lots of trade offers, call ups, etc.
Then, if you want, you can move your team to franchise mode and continue playing.
I played as the Mariners on MTO (why? look at my user name), and it took me 9 hours to lose in the ALDS on dynamic difficulty. 9 hours still isn’t bad and I enjoy the mode, but I don’t know if I want to sacrifice that type of time when there are stars to be earned. I know I earn xp playing this mode, do I earn stars?

Play on veteran, it's 52 affinity points, it shouldn't take that long to finish. It takes me around 5 hours per run (i've done 7).
Yes, you earn stars. Anytime you earn XP, you earn stars.

Don't play on dynamic, because you're up to HOF or Legend by the playoffs and the total points you get are not worth the extra hassle because the difficulty is averaged over the entire MTO run...
Play on Veteran or allstar to get the points for winning the WS as well. Should only take about 5-6 hrs as has been said.

MTO on veteran. I hate to be that guy, but you SHOULD NOT lose.. I’m about done with rays and I traded for yelich and a few other good players.
The only thing I’ve noticed is that the computer can still kind of rake so don’t spam FB down the middle to good hitters to try and cut time. But I’m borderline done the whole season, and I think I failed one moment, and will win 120 games in regular season at least.

Yes, so if you did the Rangers one you would get Rangers team affinity points that go towards that Captain Insano Joey Gallo.

If you play online Ohtani is a waste of time, no control or stamina

I have a feeling the weaker FOTF teams will be stronger in the next round. And vice versus. The teams that had good players this time will be weaker next.

I made a showdown tips video (below) that could be helpful. One showdown will net you 20 of the 50 pts you need for a FOF card and only takes a little over an hour. I breakdown the time, xp and stubs you earn from one showdown along with tips. Well worth your time. I would suggest, Olson, Torres, Ohtani, Moncada, Snell, Santana.

My issue is I fail at all showdowns.

I did MTO w/ the Wsox on Veteren and ended up losing in the ALDS. Got enough points out of it to get FOTF Moncada.

It takes me well under an hour to fail a showdown. About a month to complete one

Yep every 2k XP should be 1 star. Not sure if that counts with collections. I believe it’s only in game XP. But 9 hours is a while, I think most of my runs have been right around 5-51/2 hours with winning WS.
