Because the 12 win reward sells for so much and it’s easier to attain than going 12-0 in br. This game mode which used to be for the most casual online players has gotten so miserable. Everyone you face is a goon. I used to be able to win 3-6 games per entry. I just jumped in this event and I am 0-4 so far. I know “git gud” but this awful. SDS please fix this either make the reward structure 5, 10, 15, 20 (with 20 as the rewind pack) or take away the 12 win reward.
This game mode used to be a way for players new to online or not super competitive to enjoy H2H and you have completely taken this away from us.
It also doesn't help that they have some of the Event rewards tied to Program Collections.
You can summarize their reasoning into 5 words: They Wanted More Stub Sales.

Thats exactly right, just look at Vlad Guerrero Sr price for the 98 great race. Over 800k ... for a event card... in late October.

That, and most casual players have long since bailed on the game due to burnout and other gaming options. That leaves mostly good/great players behind sweating it out and driving up prices of the rewards due to lack of supply. I’m not saying that you don’t earn the reward if you win, just that in supporting the OP’s point, the most recent event, ranked, and BR rewards are super overpriced for mediocre cards at best that don’t crack most god squads. There may not be a back log of $1M stub orders in this year’s game for elite cards but there sure as heck is a ton of $500K plus orders for mediocre reward cards that are inferior to season 1 cards in many ways. Ultimately this years game just feels bizarre and strangely disorganized.

They went the EA/2K route. But the fanboys and gatekeepers will defend the half hearted effort for this years game no matter what.

Events have been awesome and actually worth playing this year
Please don’t change the format next year SDS

Doesn't help that they also made the Rewind Packs non-sellable.

If you look at the card in the app here 4 people have him priced up that high then he’s around 400k. The high prices are because those 4 people won’t cancel their order because it’ll then make it where they can’t sell them. If they set them at something more reasonable to start it wouldn’t be so high for so long. In my opinion Vlad Sr isn’t Mickey so he won’t sell as quick so he sits longer.

thats absolutely true
especially late in seasons, a lot of WS players that reach 900 sometimes forego ranked until the next season, so then events become the mode to play.

I don’t understand this- you’re not forced to play a goon if you don’t want to
If their record is too goonish for you just quit and search for an opponent with a bad record
Unless you’re going for the 12-1 reward, which by your post doesn’t seem like that’s something you do, you can just not play against goons

And thanks for proving my point. Because those of you who blindly defend this game by saying "muh still better than madden" is why this game is rapidly getting just like them.
EA baseball used to be a great game. But because nobody ever called them out or stopped playing once the greed overpowered the quality they became what they are and continue to be rewarded with tons of money for garbage.
Keep spending money on half completed games like this years and then wonder why it is exactly like EA/2K in less than 5 years.

Sports games will always have the problem of trying to develop a game in a fraction of the time any game gets due to having to keep up with real sports league they’re attached with. Take the last game I purchased, Spider-Man 2. Development began in September 2020 and took 3 years to complete. Sports games have to complete a brand new game in less than 1 calendar year.

They really don't change much other than the new rookies and MLB players they rotate in and out and change the color scheme. It really shouldn't be that hard. Couldn't they just rename it "MLB The Show" without a year and update the game with minor tweaks?
Too many things were horrible from launch and never got touched because they made so much money on early access and microtransactions they didn't even bother to acknowledge there was a problem, much less actually fix them. They no longer care about gameplay, or their customers.
But I bet if any of the bugs affected microtransactions they would have it fixed within hours.
-
I mean it’s hilarious because they were the ones who broke their model with the sets and seasons rolling out 99’s every other card. Now we’re the ones who have to deal with their mistake. Just do the right thing and make it better.
-
@darkblue1876 EA baseball in like what 2005 when social media wasnt even a thing lol, no wonder people couldnt complain like what are you even trying to compare. "OMG EA BASEBALL IN 05 BRO YOU HAD TO BE THERE" like stop, people on here just say stuff to say stuff, this game is the easiest of ant sports game to build a god squad, also the hardest to be good at. You can't just spend money and comete highly in this game, there actually has to be skill.
-
@darkblue1876 If you think video game companies or companies in general truly care about customers over money then I have a harsh truth to admit to you. Money rules the world, if you truly want them to make a better game, stop playing, stop posting, stop giving them your money every year, have you seen how quickly the new 2k has gone on sale? The game is on sale before the season has even started. Why? Because nobody is buying it.
-
@chucky97___ totally agree. I have to imagine player engagement is way down this year. SDS obviously has the data. I certainly wish I could see it.
